About the Opportunity

The Systems Administrator III - Linux administers, secures, and optimizes enterprise Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments across on-premises, virtual, and cloud-based infrastructures in a remote and on-site work environment. This role supports system reliability, performance, automation, patch management, vulnerability remediation, and identity management integration while ensuring the security and availability of mission-critical systems. Working closely with cross-functional teams, the Linux Systems Administrator supports secure, scalable infrastructure operations and cloud migration initiatives.

Success in this role is demonstrated through maintaining secure, highly available Linux environments, implementing automation and security improvements, resolving complex technical issues, ensuring compliance with federal and organizational requirements, and collaborating effectively to support mission and business objectives.

What You Will Do in This Role

The Systems Administrator III - Linux administers, secures, maintains, and optimizes enterprise Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments across physical, virtual, and cloud infrastructures, ensuring secure, highly available, and scalable systems through automation, patching, vulnerability management, identity integration, and cross-functional collaboration.


 
  • Administer, configure, maintain, and optimize enterprise Linux environments, with a primary focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems across physical, virtual, and cloud infrastructures, supporting secure, scalable, and highly available IT services.
  • Develop and maintain Linux operating system configurations, enterprise architecture solutions, standards, and detailed documentation covering system architecture, configurations, automation processes, procedures, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Implement and maintain Linux configuration management, patch management, system hardening, security controls, and vulnerability remediation in accordance with organizational and federal requirements.
  • Integrate Linux systems with enterprise identity and access management solutions, including Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot complex technical issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to ensure system reliability and availability.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments, evaluate security findings, coordinate remediation efforts, and support compliance audits and regulatory requirements.
  • Support infrastructure automation initiatives and develop/maintain automation solutions using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and Ansible, and scripting languages including Python, PowerShell, Bash, and others.
  • Support and optimize virtualized and cloud-hosted environments, including VMware, Microsoft Azure, and AWS, while evaluating and recommending technologies that improve performance, security, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with network, cloud, cybersecurity, application, and end-user support teams, and provide technical reporting and status updates to the onsite Federal IT Lead and stakeholders.

What You Will Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 8+ years of Linux systems administration experience.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments.
  • Experience integrating Linux systems with Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, or enterprise Identity and Access Management (IAM)/Identity, Credential, and Access Management (ICAM) platforms.
  • Experience working within federal compliance frameworks, including NIST and FISMA, and supporting vulnerability management and security control requirements.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation tools, including Terraform, Ansible, Python, and PowerShell.
  • Experience supporting cloud environments, including Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS), in production environments.

Work authorization/security clearance requirements

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.

Work Environment

  • This work is normally completed in a remote and on-site environment.

Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's and client facilities.

Travel Required

  • Travel may be required on an as-needed basis.
