Vascular Surgery Medical Assistant – Job Description

Position Summary

Symmetry Vascular Center is seeking a dependable, compassionate, and motivated Medical Assistant to join our vascular surgery team. The Medical Assistant works closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and office staff to provide efficient, high-quality care to patients with vascular conditions.

The ideal candidate is organized, patient-focused, comfortable in a fast-paced clinical environment, and committed to providing an exceptional patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for vascular surgery office visits, consultations, and follow-up appointments.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, medication lists, allergies, medical history, and reason for visit.
  • Perform medication reconciliation and ensure patient information is accurate and up to date.
  • Prepare examination rooms and ensure appropriate supplies and equipment are available.
  • Assist physicians and providers during examinations and minor office procedures.
  • Provide appropriate pre- and post-procedure instructions as directed by the clinical team.
  • Assist with wound care, dressing changes, suture/staple removal, and other clinical tasks within scope of practice.
  • Coordinate patient testing, imaging, laboratory work, referrals, and follow-up appointments.
  • Obtain and organize outside medical records, imaging reports, laboratory results, and other documentation needed for patient visits.
  • Communicate with patients regarding provider instructions, appointments, testing, and follow-up care.
  • Respond to patient calls and messages and route clinical concerns appropriately.
  • Document accurately and promptly in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Assist with prescription refill requests according to established protocols.
  • Maintain appropriate infection-control standards and clean and stock examination rooms.
  • Support patient flow to help ensure an efficient clinic schedule.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the Symmetry Vascular Center team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support patient care and practice operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  • Previous medical office or clinical experience required.
  • Experience in vascular surgery, cardiology, surgery, wound care, or another specialty practice is a plus.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification required.
  • Strong computer and EMR skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and customer-service skills.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a busy clinical environment.
  • Professional, dependable, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
