L & S is looking for a Power Systems Specialist located in Appleton, WI. We are seeking a self-motivated professional that has excellent problem-solving and communication skills and is able to work with a team as well as independently. We are willing to train if someone has an interest in electricity and power!

Responsibilities:

  • Ground grid testing,medium voltage cable testing.
  • Service and test transformers, relays, breakers, switches, and other electrical apparatus/systems at utility substations and industrial facilities.
  • Troubleshoot and test control circuits, communications systems, protections systems and other electrical apparatus.
  • Perform breaker and relay retrofits.
  • Ability to read prints and control/protection schemes.
  • Complete and submit reports accurately and timely.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.
  • Applying test procedures for various types of relay test equipment.
  • Substation awareness and Safety consciousness.
  • Aptitude to quickly learn and apply test procedures for various types of substation equipment.
  • Good PC skills and the ability to support testing activities as required by the project lead.
  • Performs testing on low and medium voltage breakers including Megger, Ductor, Hi-Pot, Hi-Current, and Timing tests.
  • Testing on power transformers including Power Factor, TTR, Insulation Resistance, Winding Resistance
  • Computer skills would have to include a minimum of Microsoft Word, Excel, & Outlook, as well as software programs designed to interface with the test equipment we use for testing and reporting.
  • Completes mechanical work and repairs on breakers including wiring, painting, parts replacement.
  • Utilizes and accurately reads meters.
  • Reading and plotting curves.

Requirements:

  • AA in Electrical Power, EE, or 5+ years field experience.
  • Proficient computer and phone skills, to include Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on client/customer needs.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Extensive travel; up to 5 days/week with overnights possible.
  • On call duty is required approximately six times per year.
  • Must be willing to work overtime, weekdays, and weekends to meet customer service requirements.
  • Experience as a Switchgear/High Voltage Technician. Proficiency with high voltage test equipment as well as knowledge of low and medium voltage test equipment.

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in a similar position
  • Electrical and mechanical aptitude

Physical demands:

  • This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, crawling, and reaching frequently.
  • Aerial work may sometimes be necessary, such as working on ladders or scaffolding.
  • Occasional lifting of heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.).
  • Frequent use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
  • Must be able to adhere to applicable safety practices for the site.
  • Uneven or slippery walking surfaces.
  • Able to wear proper PPE (i.e. hearing protection, safety glasses, hard hat, etc.).

Schedule: This is a full-time, first shift position with potential for overtime, weekends, and overnights. Travel is required.
