DEFINITION
Under direct supervision, assist with instruction of patrons in the swim lessons program.
SUPERVISION
  • This position reports to the Recreations Programs Supervisor assigned to the swimming lessons program.
  • This position does not exercise supervision of other staff.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following functions & duties are typical for this position. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address City needs and changing business practices.
Assist with instruction of patrons in the swim lessons program.
Interact with patrons in a courteous, professional manner.
Provide information to patrons about the swimming lessons program as requested.
Perform other related job duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of:
  • Area of instruction - swimming.

Ability to:
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public.
  • Distinguish varying levels of cleanliness and take necessary measures to ensure a safe, clean environment, (i.e. mopping, sweeping, hosing down, shoveling, window cleaning, vacuuming, polishing tables, etc.).
  • Possess physical conditioning required to perform duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Training:
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience that would provide familiarity with the swimming lessons program.

Age Requirement:
  • Must be 15 years of age or older.

License/Certification:
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, valid CPR and First Aid certifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES REQUIRE THE FOLLOWING PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, crouch, twist, and grasp; work with hands above shoulder height with up to 40 lbs.; work with arms extended at shoulder height with up to 20 lbs.; and lift or carry 50 lbs. or less and push and/or pull heavy weights (over 75 lb. weights) on a regular basis.
Applicants who are offered employment are required to pass a comprehensive background investigation (including FBI fingerprint check), job-related physical exam, drug screening test and driver license check.
