Reports to: Natatorium Supervisor Pay Grade: $22.00/hour
Dept./School: Athletics/Natatorium Date Revised: April 16, 2026
Primary Purpose:
Responsible for teaching swim lessons based on participant skill level or group level during the designated class time(s) and/or assisting with the 4th Grade Water Safety Program at the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District Natatorium.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Adhere to established Learn-to-Swim Curriculum.
  • Ensure the safety of lesson participants by creating an educational and inviting experience.
  • Evaluate each student during their assigned lessons.
  • Communicate effectively with participants parents on a regular basis.
  • Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations with courtesy.
  • Accurately complete records and reports, as needed.
  • Knowledgeable in facility Emergency Action Plan (EAP).
  • Participate in regular in-service training sessions.
  • Maintain fitness level (swimming skills, strength and endurance).
  • Perform light janitorial duties as needed.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
  • May be asked to act as a lifeguard, if certified as such, by the American Red Cross during times of need.

Qualifications:
Certifications:
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification; preferred;
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid for the Professionals Rescuer Certification; required or able to receive within 6 weeks of hire date
  • Any and all certifications must remain valid for duration of employment.

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Must show a passion for Water Safety and working with children.
  • Encouraging, flexible, and have a willingness to try new ideas when it comes to different instruction techniques.
  • Teach appropriate skills and techniques depending on group skill level and number of participants
  • Understand that this position is year-round:
    • Evening Swim Lessons are year-round
    • Morning Swim Lessons during the summer break
    • Individuals will be able to assist with 4th Grade Water Safety program during the school year if their schedule allows
  • Understanding of facility rules, policies, and procedures.

Experience:
  • No swim instructor experience required. Related work experience preferred.
  • Swim Team experience preferred.
  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.

Tools/Equipment Used: Athletic equipment, standard office equipment including computer and peripherals, and other instructional equipment; big easy mask, automated external defibrillator (AED), bag-valve-mask (BVM), job specific equipment.
Posture: Prolongedstanding; sitting, kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping.
Motion: Frequent walking and physical movements associated with sport(s) assigned.
Lifting: Frequently light lifting (less than 15 pounds); occasional moderate lifting or carrying (15-44 pounds); rare heavy lifting or carrying (+44 pounds)
Environment: Work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather) and inside; prolonged exposure to chemical hazards (chlorinated water and fumes); frequent exposure to noise; work on slippery surfaces frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.
