Job description

Overview

Senior Software Engineer (Swift) for Disney Entertainment & ESPN Product & Technology. The role focuses on designing a feature-rich, standard streaming media playback library for Apple devices, with a layered architecture that spans Disney direct-to-consumer brands such as Disney+, ESPN, ABC News, and Hulu. You will collaborate with media playback teams across platforms to ensure a consistent software architecture and a best-in-class streaming experience.

This is a hands-on engineering position for the Apple ecosystem, using Objective-C/Swift. You will work with cross-functional teams including Product Managers, Designers, Engineers, Web Developers, and Content Creators to conceptualize and develop reusable solutions across Disney experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement features in collaboration with team members that integrate with Disney media services and back-ends.
  • Collaborate on API design with API Services teams and front-end teams that depend on our libraries.
  • Research and develop media playback experiences, integration, and testing.
  • Participate in project estimation and resource planning.
  • Collaborate in small, productive development teams as well as the larger engineering organization.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across multiple platforms.
  • Collaborate in a small team and work independently as needed.
  • Specialize in Apple technologies such as UIKit, SwiftUI, AVKit, and StoreKit to build world-class applications.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of experience in iOS software development; 3+ years with Swift.
  • At least 5 years of experience implementing complex user interfaces with UIKit or SwiftUI.
  • At least 3 years of experience in agile processes; ability to contribute to team effectiveness.
  • Experience with full software development lifecycle (including early stage, maintenance, end of life).
  • Understanding of design patterns (e.g., MVC, MVVM) and programming paradigms (Object-Oriented, Reactive).
  • Understanding of iOS/ tvOS app development lifecycle; experience with Object-Oriented Programming.
  • Ability to write efficient, reliable, and maintainable code; collaborate with senior team members.
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks and continuous integration.
  • Strong verbal and written communication; motivated self-starter who can learn and adapt to new technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with streaming technologies (HLS, MPEG-DASH, Transport Stream, CMAF).
  • Experience with AVFoundation and its ecosystem.
  • Experience developing applications across Apple platforms (iPhone, iPad, tvOS).
Education
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
Compensation and Location

The hiring range is as follows: San Francisco, CA: $155,400–$208,400 per year; Seattle, WA / New York, NY: $148,700–$199,400 per year; Glendale, CA: $141,900–$190,300 per year. Final offer may vary based on regional factors and experience. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be offered in addition to benefits.
