To thrive as a Software Engineering Intern, you need a solid understanding of programming languages (such as Python, Java, or C++), algorithms, and data structures, often supported by progress toward a computer science or related degree. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, integrated development environments (IDEs), and basic software development methodologies is typically expected. Strong problem-solving abilities, eagerness to learn, and effective teamwork and communication skills make candidates stand out. These competencies are crucial for contributing to real projects, collaborating with engineering teams, and quickly adapting to industry workflows.

What types of projects do SWE interns typically work on during a Summer 2025 internship?

Software Engineering (SWE) interns are often assigned to real-world projects that can range from developing new features for existing products, fixing bugs, improving system performance, to contributing to open-source initiatives. Interns usually work in small teams under the guidance of experienced engineers and are encouraged to participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and daily stand-ups. This hands-on experience helps interns build technical skills, understand agile development processes, and learn how to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams such as Product Management and Quality Assurance.
