Position Summary
The Senior Packaging Designer will play a pivotal role in creating disruptive and on-brand designs for beauty packaging, including merch and PR boxes. We are seeking a highly skilled and creative designer with a passion for beauty and the expertise to meet design direction within brand, manufacturing and cost constraints. This fast-paced role handles multiple projects on escalated timelines, requiring a nimble designer capable of quick pivots and strategic thinking.
Responsibilities:
  • Interpret creative briefs to design strategic packaging concepts that translate brand positioning, consumer insights, and market opportunities into innovative and on-trend design solutions that align with our brand's identity and target audience.
  • Strong knowledge of beauty trends to create thumb-stopping designs for packaging, PR kits, merch, and/or collaborations.
  • Execute approved designs with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring the final design meets production standards and specifications.
  • Create designs that take into account sustainability targets such as material reduction and use of post-consumer recycled resin.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Marketing, Brand Marketing, New Product Development, Sales, and Operations.
  • Present design rationale effectively to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Stay up to date on emerging design trends, techniques and technologies within the beauty industry.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines while maintaining a high level of quality.
  • Foster effective communication channels with internal teams and external vendors as necessary to ensure seamless execution of packaging projects.
  • Maintain organized files, documentation and archives of design files for easy retrieval and future reference.
  • Oversee day-to-day process of packaging design and sampling, and liase with Development team and China NPD team daily to follow up on sample development.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, Packaging Design, Visual Communications, or a related field.
  • 5+ years experience as a packaging designer in a high volume, deadline-driven environment in beauty or a related industry, with a strong portfolio.
  • Knowledge of packaging decoration techniques across both primary and secondary packaging.
  • Strong and refined typography skills.
  • Excellent eye for color.
  • Proficient in industry-standard design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), as well as AI rendering tools.
  • Excellent communication, time management and organizational skills; deadline driven.
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative manner and a highly creative out-of-the-box thinker.
  • Ability to anticipate workload and proactively communicate to managers.
  • Current on fashion, beauty, design and digital trends.
  • Ability to be physically in office a minimum of 3-days per week.
  • Experience with 3D rendering tools a plus.
  • Experience in art direction for beauty a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of sustainability best practices a plus

$80,000 - $110,000 a year
The base salary range for this role is listed above.
Total compensation includes base salary, annual company-based performance bonus, and equity. Under e.l.f.'s annual bonus program, employees are eligible to earn up to 200% of their target bonus when company performance exceeds defined goals. In addition, e.l.f. provides a variety of other benefits to employees, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a retirement savings plan, gender neutral parental leave, and unlimited paid time off. The amount of total compensation (including base salary) offered will be based on a wide range of factors, including geographic location, experience, specific skills, and qualifications.
