Job description

This role serves as the carbon assurance program lead for AWS Global Sustainability, owning end-to-end coordination of third-party assurance, methodology change management, and recast processes across Carbon (Scope 1, 2, 3). In collaboration with Amazon's central Carbon Measurement and Governance team, the AWS Carbon Assurance Lead will prepare AWS for assurance cycles, ensuring the AWS footprint components are of high quality, in alignment with measurement standards (e.g., GHG Protocol), and sufficiently documented to pass third-party assurance. At the same time, they will continually work to enhance the AWS assurance readiness and internal controls program, working alongside product managers, engineers, scientists, and business leaders to develop solutions for measurement, accounting, and assurance

This role will directly impact the product feature roadmap of the AWS Sustainability console which enables all AWS Customers to measure, track and reduce their environmental impact across AWS. The role will coordinate acceptable request changes to emission factors, activity data and/or calculation methodology relevant to AWS that may impact Amazon's carbon footprint. This role ensures that any changes to carbon measurements and methodologies are scientifically credible, properly validated, accurately reflected in reporting, and compliant with standards.

This role is crucial in supporting progress towards Amazon's sustainability goals through precise quantification and verification of our environmental impact.
The ideal candidate has specialized knowledge of corporate sustainability methodology, accounting, assurance, and reporting best practices and strong analytical abilities. Data-driven decision-making is at the core of Amazon's culture.

The ideal candidate has expertise applying sustainability principles to real world data and accounting challenges. They have interacted directly with customers, vendors, or external partners and built trusting relationships with business partners. They have a passion for helping customers on their sustainability journey and launching innovative products.


Key job responsibilities
- Own end-to-end 3P assurance engagements for AWS, which can include provider selection, contracts, work orders, POs, and timeline coordination, while partnering with Amazon and AWS data owners (including Legal, Finance, and Procurement) to ensure all data, boundaries, and documentation meet company-wide and assurance standards.
- Own overall coordination, timeline management and decisions for the AWS Sustainability Console recast processes, including trigger event management and high-judgement threshold decisions.
- Own the AWS assurance improvement plan which aims for continuous improvement as to the efficiency and efficacy of the carbon assurance process.


- Partner with product managers, engineers, and scientists to support the launch of new product features that will yield benefits to Amazon customers and improve the customer experience
- Resolve complex sustainability-related inquiries from customers and provide recommendations to product engineering teams to implement long-term fixes
