Job Description

JENNMAR Services, a staffing company specializing in employee placement for the energy industry, is currently seeking a Rodman Surveyor for West Elk Mine in Somerset, Colorado. This is a full-time position offering competitive salary and benefits.

Basic Job Duties for Rodman Surveyor:
  • Assist the Surveyor with underground and surface surveying operations.
  • Carry, set up, and maintain surveying equipment including total stations, prisms, tripods, laser levels, and other field instruments.
  • Hold target rods and prism poles at designated locations to ensure accurate survey measurements.
  • Drill and install mechanical survey plugs (spads) in underground mine roofs to establish permanent survey control points.
  • Prepare work areas by clearing debris or obstructions to maintain clear lines of sight for surveying equipment.
  • Clean, inspect, calibrate, and properly store surveying equipment after use.
  • Maintain inventory of survey supplies including paint, flagging ribbon, expansion plugs, and other field materials.
  • Assist with recording field measurements and documentation as directed by the Surveyor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements for Rodman Surveyor:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • No previous surveying experience required; on-the-job training will be provided.
  • Ability to follow detailed verbal instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Ability to accurately record field notes and measurements.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability and willingness to work underground and on the surface in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen and background check.
Physical Requirements for Rodman Surveyor:
  • Ability to work up to 12-hour shifts.
  • Ability to walk long distances over uneven terrain and underground mine conditions.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and low-clearance areas.
  • Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to kneel, bend, stoop, climb, and work in physically demanding environments.
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE).

All duties and responsibilities must be conducted in a safe, clean, and productive manner. It is a requirement to comply with all Health and Safety requirements established by JENNMAR Services and West Elk Mine.

Compensation for the Rodman Surveyor:
  • $53,772 – $80,659 annually
  • Salaried Non-Exempt (NX 04)
