Position Overview

Alta E&I is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Surveyor Assistant to join our Tucson Survey team. As a Surveyor Assistant, you will provide essential support to a survey Crew Chief performing land surveying tasks on a survey field crew. This position requires the ability to work outdoors, in sometimes extreme conditions, performing tasks safely and accurately while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.  

Responsibilities and Expectations:

A Surveyor Assistant directly assists a Crew Chief on a survey field crew performing the following tasks:

  • Ensure crew truck is supplied, and equipment batteries are charged daily
  • Clear brush, dig holes, drive posts, set stakes and monuments
  • Handle equipment carefully, call out readings, write numbers, mark distances, and use measuring devices as directed
  • Memorize and follow established guidelines and procedures
  • May assist other crews and team members
  • Learn to conduct field measurements and observations
  • Learn to assist with maintaining field notes as directed
  • Perform other tasks as directed by the Crew Chief or management 

Physical Demands

Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and rugged terrain.   Must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.

Schedule/Overtime

Regular core hours for this position are from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (Summer schedule) transitioning to 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Winter schedule). Most work is performed during core hours, but occasionally overtime may be required before and/or after these core hours. This is a full time position. 

Travel

Most assignments for this position will be done locally.  However, occasionally assignments may be out of town and overnight travel could be required.

Qualifications:  

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be dependable, punctual, motivated and eager to learn
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Must be well organized and detail oriented
  • Ability to travel to job sites as a member of a survey field crew
