Job description

Role summary

We’re hiring a Survey Drafting Technician to join our land surveying team. You will convert field notes and survey data into accurate, production-ready CAD drawings and legal plats. This role suits a detail-oriented drafter who understands surveying principles, boundary documentation, and CAD standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Produce CAD drawings from field data, GPS files, and survey notes.
  • Draft legal plats, boundary maps, and topographic plans following state and company standards.
  • Review and verify measurements, coordinate systems, and metadata for accuracy.
  • Annotate drawings with bearings, distances, easements, and other legal descriptions.
  • Coordinate with surveyors and project managers to resolve discrepancies and incorporate revisions.
  • Maintain drawing templates and layer standards to ensure consistency across projects.
  • Prepare files for printing and electronic delivery; manage version control.

Required qualifications

  • 2+ years drafting experience in land surveying or civil engineering.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or equivalent CAD software.
  • Familiarity with survey data formats (CSV, DXF, DWG, GNSS/GPS exports).
  • Strong understanding of boundary law basics, legal descriptions, and surveying terminology.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to read field notes and translate them into precise drawings.

Preferred qualifications

  • Associate degree or certificate in Surveying Technology, Civil Drafting, or related field.
  • Experience with GIS software and coordinate transformations.
  • Knowledge of state-specific platting requirements and recording standards.
