Johnson & Johnson MedTech is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer, R&D โ€“ MedTech. The position is located in Cincinnati, OH & will work a full onsite schedule with 5 days per week in the office. Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates. Purpose:

The Mechanical Design Engineer will work with a multi-functional team to develop innovative mechanisms and structural assemblies for Robotic Surgical Instruments and Accessories. This role is responsible for concept design and engineering analysis along with creating drawings, design specifications, and related documentation.

You will be responsible for:
  • Participate in a multi-functional team to design and develop robotic instrumentation including all components and subassemblies
  • Translate high-level customer needs into technical options and analyze the tradeoffs and business impact
  • Design analysis and testing procedures, coordinate tests, analyze results, and develop written reports
  • Participate in technical design reviews of requirements, specifications, designs, etc.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • A Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field is required.
  • A minimum of 2+ years of Mechanical design experience in a professional work environment is required.
  • Strong collaboration and teaming skills are required.
  • Experience with mechanism design and utilization of machine elements (gears, pulleys, cables, etc.) is required.
  • Experience using engineering calculations and analytical techniques such as finite element analysis to assist product development and testing is required.
  • Proven leadership and initiative, with ability to advance technology or projects in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Experience in developing innovative product concepts that tackle unmet customer needs, including preliminary sketches, CAD models, and detail drawings.
  • Development of design models, prototypes, or breadboards to assess technical feasibility of concepts
  • Design For Manufacturing and Assembly knowledge including component manufacturing methods (injection molding, machining, stamping etc.)
  • Experience using design controls including product requirements, product risk assessment, and verification & validation testing.
  • Experience creating engineering documentation in a regulated environment (MedTech preferred) related to assigned projects, such as technical reports and presentations.
  • Possesses a growth mindset, adapting to challenges and interested in continuous improvement
  • May require up to 25% travel both international and domestic.
