Requirements:

Diploma or degree in surgical technology from an accredited program

Certification as a Certified Surgery Technologist (CST) required

Minimum 3+ years of experience in a hospital or outpatient operating room

Current First Aid and CPR certification

In-depth knowledge of surgical instruments, sterile techniques, and aseptic procedures

Physical ability to lift 23 kg and stand for extended periods

Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and adaptability in high-pressure environments

Responsibilities:Before Surgery:

Sterilize the operating room, surgical tools, and equipment to maintain a safe and sterile environment

Prepare patients for surgery, including disinfecting incision sites

Gather and arrange surgical instruments, sponges, and other supplies

During Surgery:

Assist the surgeon by passing instruments and holding retractors as needed

Maintain a sterile field to prevent infections and complications

Monitor blood and fluid loss, ensuring all instruments and materials are accounted for

After Surgery:

Close surgical wounds and apply dressings

Transfer patients to recovery areas, ensuring their safety and comfort

Perform post-operative instrument and supply counts to maintain surgical accuracy

Additionally, surgical technologists must:

Stay updated on surgical advancements, medical terminology, and new technologies

Work collaboratively with surgical teams, nurses, and physicians

Uphold professional and ethical standards of practice in all procedures
