Northern Care Hospital is seeking a dedicated and experienced Surgical Center Physician Assistant to join our dynamic medical team in Bethesda, Maryland. This position is based onsite at our modern Surgical Center, where you will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, providing a structured yet flexible environment that fosters both professional growth and personal balance.

• Conduct thorough pre-operative evaluations of patients, ensuring all relevant medical histories and conditions are documented and addressed prior to surgery.
• Assist surgeons in the operating room with procedures, demonstrating a high degree of skill and knowledge, while monitoring patients' vital signs and overall condition during surgeries.
• Develop and implement personalized post-operative care plans that incorporate pain management, rehabilitation guidance, and follow-up appointments.
• Perform diagnostic tests, including physical exams and procedures, to assess and diagnose patient conditions effectively.
• Educate patients and their families about surgical procedures, ensuring they understand the risks, benefits, and expected outcomes to empower informed decision-making.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic health records (EHR), facilitating seamless communication and continuity of care among team members.
• Utilize evidence-based practices and adhere to organization protocols to ensure quality care and optimal patient outcomes.

The Physician Assistant will work primarily with adult patients undergoing elective and emergent surgical procedures. Our center serves a diverse community, where increased cultural competency and sensitivity to patient needs are crucial. You will encounter various surgical specializations, providing you with a broad range of experiences and the ability to contribute significantly to each patient’s surgical journey.

• A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Studies program is required, with preference given to candidates with a Master’s degree.
• Possession of an active and unrestricted Physician Assistant license in the state of Maryland, or eligibility for licensure.
• Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is mandatory.
• DEA registration with prescriptive authority is essential for the role.
• Proficiency with electronic health record systems, particularly those used in surgical settings, is required.
• Exceptional clinical skills complemented by strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
• Experience in surgical settings or procedures is highly desirable, preferably with direct involvement in patient perioperative care.

• At least 2 years of experience as a Physician Assistant, particularly in surgical, orthopedic, or emergency settings.
• Familiarity with chronic disease management related to surgical procedures, such as pre-operative optimization of patients with comorbidities.
• A demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team-oriented environment, collaborating with a range of healthcare professionals.
