Job description

Within the framework of the hospital and nursing service policies and procedures, the primary purpose of this position is to carry out routine and assigned Surgical Technologist tasks and assist the Surgical Technologist with carrying out patient care activities within the scope of training and experience.

The individual must possess skills and competencies necessary to provide care to patients ranging in age from neonate to geriatric. Customer service is valued by the individual as evidenced by: 1) being courteous to our customers, which include patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers and fellow employees; 2) introducing self by name and job title when speaking in person or by telephone to patients, their families and others; 3) demonstration of honesty, discretion in conduct, and confidentiality in conversation in all of work environment. The individual follows standards of conduct and procedures of hospital and applicable laws and regulations and reports violations through appropriate chain of command. The individual reports safety concerns and hazardous conditions in a timely and appropriate manner.

The primary purpose is to provide safe and efficient care to ensure quality patient outcomes. The Surgical Technologist Trainee will be responsible for assisting with setting up the operating room, ensuring equipment and supplies are available and in working order, assisting with patient positioning and surgical prep. The Surgical Technologist extern will assist the Surgical Technologist and surgeon throughout the procedure by maintaining a sterile field, holding retractors, passing surgical instruments, facilitating case turnover, and ensuring proper instrument and equipment care post procedure.

The Surgical Technologist Trainee shall not participate in the preparation, management, or administration of medications. The Surgery Technologist Trainee may provide support when additional staff are needed under direct supervision of a precepting Surgical Technologist. This position will never scrub alone.
