We have Optical Laboratories in Louisville, KY and Fort Lauderdale, FL and manage many optical stores across the US and Puerto Rico. We are seeking a Digital Surface Technician! We are looking for someone who enjoys hands-on technical work, thrives in a production environment, and values accuracy and consistency.

As a Digital Surface Technician, you will control the optical manufacturing equipment that blocks, generates, polishes, add backside coating, and lasers the lenses to the designated curve on the concave side of the lens.

This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 4:30pm – 1:00am. The payrate for this position is 17.00 per hour. 

Optical lab or mass manufacturing experience is preferred but not required. We will provide on-the-job training! 


Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Must be able to stand and work on your feet for 8 hours.
  • Must learn how to run all machines within your designated area.
  • Change and install the Filter Tech rolls with a partner, as necessary.
  • Be able to address any equipment errors and alarms on the automated surface line, which do not require a tool to repair.
  • Understand the order of the lab production, the Julian Day Number (JND) system and which jobs are considered “HOT”, or “PRIORITY JOBS” that should be completed first. 
  • Transport trays for production as needed.
  • Clean up your work area and machines during and after your shift. 
  • Keep workflow going at a steady pace. 

 

Work Environment 

This position is in the Digital Surface Department of our optical laboratory and operates in a production/manufacturing type setting. The temperature can sometimes be warm, and the noise level can be somewhat loud. This position also requires working near a diverse group of other co-workers.
