Job Title: Apprentice Fiber Optic Installer/Technician

Job Summary:

General Summary: The Apprentice Fiber Optic Technician will work closely with seasoned Highline staff to professionally install fiber optic cable lines using light industrial equipment such as small trenchers and perform home installations of broadband (internet) services, including premise wiring and home networking.

No experience necessary, Highline will teach you how to professionally perform the duties of a fiber optic technician and associated fiber and technology. This position requires working outside and indoors in Park County (Bailey-Fairplay-Hartsel).

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Assist construction team with installing fiber optic cable lines using light industrial equipment such as small trenchers.
  • Assist network technicians with home installations of broadband (internet) services, including Optical Network Terminals (ONT’s) routers, premise wiring and home networking.
  • Develop, maintain, and utilize knowledge of splicing fiber optic cable.
  • Communicate effectively to complete tasks on time and safely according to Company standards and procedures.
  • Learn how to locate buried cable.
  • Work is normally performed in all weather conditions, noise levels, hazardous conditions, and full range of outdoor and indoor work surfaces.
  • Run fiber optic and network cable through conduit.
  • Maintain a clean and secure environment of company assets and property.
  • Maintain good attendance and appearance.
  • Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.
  • Travel as necessary to meet demands of the business.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge:

Experience and Education:

  • No Experience Necessary
  • High School Diploma or GED required

Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Prolonged periods working outdoors.
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background and drug screenings (and Random Selections)
  • Must wear Personal Protective Equipment and use safety equipment, as designated.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat to perform repairs and inspections.
  • Must have a valid (State) driver’s license and be insurable by Highline insurance carrier. Background check will be performed.
