Job description

Responsibilities

Join Peraton in advancing the safety, efficiency, and modernization of the National Airspace System (NAS) through the FAA's Brand New Air Traffic Control System (BNATCS) contract. As a trusted partner to the Federal Aviation Administration, Peraton helps deliver the systems and services that keep our nation's skies safe and connected. We're looking for innovative professionals who thrive in mission-critical environments and are passionate about shaping the future of air traffic management. This is your chance to make an impact on one of the world's most vital transportation infrastructures, working alongside leaders in aviation, engineering, data science, and systems integration.

At Peraton, you won't just support the mission - you'll define it.

Peraton is seeking a Weather Camera Systems Engineer to support the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the design, implementation, and sustainment of critical weather camera infrastructure across Alaska, Hawaii, and the Continental United States (CONUS). If you enjoy blending engineering expertise with hands-on fieldwork and want your work to directly improve aviation safety, this is an opportunity to make a lasting national impact.

Work Location:

  • This position is 100% on-site, located in Anchorage, Alaska.
  • The ability to travel to remote locations.
Your Impact:

This role combines systems engineering, field operations, and infrastructure modernization to ensure pilots, air traffic personnel, and aviation stakeholders have access to reliable, real-time weather information. You will work at the forefront of aviation technology, helping expand and enhance the FAA's weather camera network by designing, evaluating, and implementing state-of-the-art camera installations in some of the nation's most challenging and remote environments.

Systems Engineering & Infrastructure Design
  • Provide engineering support for the FAA Weather Camera Program, supporting the design, implementation, and modernization of weather camera infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain complete Engineering Design and Installation Packages (EDIPs) for new and upgraded camera installations.
  • Perform engineering analyses to ensure systems meet operational, environmental, and reliability requirements.
  • Support configuration management activities to maintain system integrity throughout the project lifecycle.
Site Surveys & Field Engineering
  • Conduct comprehensive site surveys and site evaluations to determine suitability for new weather camera installations.
  • Assess existing sites for operational reliability, infrastructure condition, and upgrade potential.
  • Develop detailed site survey reports documenting findings, recommendations, and implementation considerations.
  • Recommend optimal site selection or relocation alternatives based on visibility, terrain, communications availability, installation cost, maintenance requirements, and long-term operational value.
  • Perform field activities requiring travel to remote and geographically diverse locations throughout Alaska, Hawaii, and CONUS.
Project Implementation & Program Support
  • Coordinate with FAA personnel, property owners, utilities, and other stakeholders to support project planning and execution.
  • Support real estate and lease coordination activities associated with site acquisition and sustainment.
  • Coordinate site implementation activities including equipment installation, testing, commissioning, and acceptance.
  • Produce and maintain final project documentation, engineering drawings, and as-built records.
  • Provide technical writing and documentation support for engineering packages, installation guides, and operational procedures.
Your Impact on the Mission

Reliable weather information saves lives. As a Weather Camera Systems Engineer, your work ensures that pilots, controllers, and aviation stakeholders have access to accurate, real-time visual weather data that supports safer and more informed flight operations. Your engineering expertise will help expand and sustain a national capability that improves situational awareness, enhances operational reliability, and strengthens the safety of the National Airspace System.
