Your role at GEI. 
 
The Senior Desktop Engineer will provide Tier 1, front-line technical support, to local and remote employees. This includes assisting with desktops, laptops, mobile devices, peripherals, and basic networking. You’ll help ensure users stay productive by delivering high-quality, timely technical assistance.
 
Essential Responsibilities & Duties 
  • User Support: Assist end users with issues related to hardware, software, and connectivity via phone, email, and Microsoft Teams.
  • Ticket Queue Management: Assign tickets to appropriate staff as they come in.
  • Ticket Management: Log and manage incoming tickets using Service Desk Plus or similar ticketing systems. Escalate issues as necessary.
  • Device Setup: Configure and deploy Windows laptops, desktops, and peripherals following company standards.
  • User Onboarding: Assist in preparing and delivering laptops and setting up accounts for new hires.
  • Software Support: Provide support for Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, OneDrive) and many others.
  • Mobile Devices: Help set up and support mobile phones and smart devices.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Maintain accurate records and documentation; contribute to the internal knowledge base.
  • Team Collaboration: Partner with senior technicians on more advanced troubleshooting and project-based work.
  • Solo work: Ability to work as the sole IT resource in a small office environment, managing day-to-day support and troubleshooting with minimal supervision.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional IT support tasks as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Education: Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, equivalent work experience accepted; bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: 
    • 1–3 years of experience in desktop or helpdesk support.
    • Familiarity with Windows 10/11, Microsoft 365, and basic Active Directory tasks.
    • Experience with Entra ID, AutoPilot, Company Portal, and Intune are a plus, but not required.
    • Experience with imaging Intune or MDT.
    • Familiar with Dell computers is a plus.
  • Technical Profeiciency:
    • Familiar with engineering applications such as AutoDesk, BlueBeam, RockScience, etc. a plus.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong hardware and software troubleshooting skills.
    • Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
    • Familiar with CrowdStrike Endpoint Protection is a plus.
    • Familiar with Airlock Digital application control.
    • Willingness to learn and grow in a team environment.
    • Ability to follow procedures and provide consistent support.
Preferred Certifications (not required but beneficial)
  • CompTIA A+, Network+, and/or Security+
  • Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate
  • ITIL Foundation
