What is a supply chain?

A supply chain is a network of organizations, people, activities, information, and resources involved in producing and delivering a product or service from the supplier to the end customer. It encompasses everything from sourcing raw materials to manufacturing, warehousing, transportation, and distribution. Effective supply chain management ensures products are produced and delivered efficiently, cost-effectively, and reliably, minimizing delays and optimizing inventory. Supply chains are critical in almost every industry and play a key role in meeting customer demand and maintaining business competitiveness.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a supply chain professional?

To thrive as a Supply Chain professional, you need strong analytical skills, knowledge of logistics and inventory management, and typically a degree in business, supply chain management, or a related field. Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, supply chain management software, and relevant certifications like APICS CPIM or CSCP are highly valued. Exceptional organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication set top performers apart. These competencies are essential for optimizing operations, reducing costs, and ensuring seamless product delivery in competitive markets.

Supply chain professionals often encounter challenges such as managing inventory levels to meet fluctuating demand, coordinating effectively with suppliers and internal teams, and responding quickly to disruptions like shipping delays or shortages. Additionally, adapting to new technologies and ensuring compliance with regulations can require ongoing learning and flexibility. These challenges make strong problem-solving skills and effective communication essential for success in a supply chain environment.

This position serves as a key lead technical authority across engineering and supply chain functions, ensuring that nuclear-grade components are sourced, qualified, and delivered with uncompromising precision. This individual operates as a trusted partner to engineering, a protector of quality standards, and a driver of execution in high-stakes, first-of-a-kind (FOAK) nuclear projects. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering results in environments where failure is not an option.
Location: Camden, NJ (Onsite)
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead sourcing initiatives for critical SMR-300 components through competitive RFI/RFP/RFQ processes
  • Lead technical discussions on cost estimation for complex manufactured components and bulk materials
  • Lead development of schedules for long-lead nuclear equipment and supplier deliverables
  • Lead in change impact assessments affecting suppliers and manufacturing scope.
  • Identify manufacturing, material availability, and capacity risks across the SMR supply chain.
  • Develop expediting dashboards and KPIs; provide accurate forecasts and concise status updates to project stakeholders.
  • Develop mitigation strategies for constrained nuclear-qualified suppliers.
  • Support localization and supplier development initiatives to expand nuclear-capable manufacturing capacity.
  • Lead make/buy analyses and manufacturing readiness assessments.
  • Collaborate with design engineering to translate technical requirements into procurement specifications and supplier documentation packages.
  • Review and validate supplier technical submittals, drawings, inspection and test plans (ITPs), and manufacturing procedures.
  • Analyze equipment required in nuclear plants and establish commercial grade dedication that complies with design, technical specification, and code requirements.
  • Reconcile equipment documentation to the ASME Code.
  • Determine technical procurement requirements using the plant design basis to maintain configuration control.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • 7-10 years of experience in procurement or supply chain roles supporting large-scale industrial, EPC, or complex capital projects; experience in nuclear or other highly regulated industries is strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles and technical problem-solving
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet demanding deadlines
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and think critically to solve complex problems
  • Experience in nuclear power plant systems or regulated industries (preferred)
  • Familiarity with U.S. NRC regulation (preferred)
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license or advanced engineering degree (MS) (preferred)
  • Experience with project management tools (MS Project, Primavera P6)
  • Familiarity with CAD tools such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks
  • SRO license or PWR operational experience (preferred)
  • Must be eligible to work under U.S. federal code 10 CFR 810.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working on nuclear new build projects or within NQA-1 quality programs.
  • Familiarity with ASME codes, nuclear procurement specifications, and supplier quality requirements.
  • Certification in Supply Chain Management (e.g., CPSM, CSCP) or Project Management (PMP) is a plus.
  • Experience with international sourcing and logistics coordination.
  • Experience in supplier audits, inspections, or quality surveillance.
