Summary:
The Operations Coordinator - Transportation plays a crucial role in overseeing transportation operations, ensuring timely deliveries, and optimizing efficiency between the distribution center and transportation partners. This position coordinates transportation logistics, monitors delivery performance, and collaborates across departments to ensure seamless order fulfillment. The Operations Coordinator serves as a key liaison between internal teams and external transportation providers, managing documentation, optimizing routes, and troubleshooting issues to minimize disruptions and enhance operational efficiency.
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate Transportation Logistics: Manage and schedule transportation activities to ensure timely and accurate deliveries from the distribution center to customers and retail locations
  • Track Performance: Monitor delivery schedules, track transportation performance metrics, and resolve any issues to ensure goods arrive on time and in good condition
  • Collaborate Across Departments: Work closely with internal teams, including inventory management, warehouse operations, and customer service, to ensure seamless coordination and timely order fulfillment
  • Manage Documentation: Handle transportation-related paperwork and ensure compliance with all regulations, including shipping documents, bills of lading, proof of delivery, and safety protocols
  • Optimize Routing: Work with drivers and third-party transportation providers to optimize delivery routes, improve efficiency, and reduce transportation costs
  • Troubleshoot Transportation Issues: Resolve transportation or scheduling issues quickly and effectively to minimize disruptions to delivery operations and customer satisfaction
  • Suggest Process Improvements: Identify opportunities for process improvements in transportation coordination and suggest changes to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service levels
  • Carrier Communication: Maintain regular communication with carriers, drivers, and logistics partners to ensure alignment on schedules, performance expectations, and service standards
  • System Management: Utilize Transportation Management Systems (TMS), ERP systems, and logistics software to track shipments, manage schedules, and generate reports
  • Performance Reporting: Generate and analyze reports on transportation metrics including on-time delivery rates, carrier performance, and cost per shipment
  • Safety Compliance: Ensure all transportation activities comply with DOT regulations, safety standards, and company policies
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Experience in customer service, logistics, supply chain management, or transportation coordination, including managing orders, transportation, and inventory
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines with exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal teams and external transportation partners
  • Proven problem-solving ability and capacity to troubleshoot issues and make quick, informed decisions to keep transportation and deliveries on track
  • Proficiency in using logistics software, ERP systems, or TMS (Transportation Management Systems), with the ability to quickly learn new tools as needed
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
  • Strong customer service orientation with focus on meeting delivery commitments
  • Availability to work Saturday and Sunday, 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Additional Qualifications, Preferred:
  • Associate's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in transportation coordination or logistics operations
  • Experience with SAP, Manhattan, or similar enterprise systems
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and transportation compliance requirements
  • Familiarity with freight management, load planning, and carrier selection processes
  • Experience in furniture, retail, or manufacturing distribution environments
  • Understanding of warehouse operations and inventory management principles
  • Lean or Six Sigma exposure with focus on process improvement
Work Environment:
This position is located in a climate-controlled office environment with standard lighting and moderate noise levels typical of professional workspace settings. The role primarily involves sitting at a desk for extended periods while working with computers, phones, and other office equipment. The collaborative environment includes interaction with team members and may require occasional visits to warehouse or distribution center areas where moderate to high noise levels, temperature variations, and material handling equipment are in operation.
