Job description

Manufacturing Engineer (Experienced, Lead or Senior)

Company:

The Boeing Company

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Laser and Electro-Optical Systems (LEOS) site is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer (Experienced, Lead, or Senior) for our advanced development and production manufacturing team located in Albuquerque, NM.

The Boeing Laser and Electro-Optical systems (LEOS) group works to develop and implement next-generation technologies and products serving a variety of commercial and military customers. Our team focuses on rapid prototyping and precision production of advanced laser and electro-optical systems that satisfy challenging product performance requirements built in accordance with aerospace (AS9100) quality standards.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop and optimize manufacturing processes and tooling approaches for complex electro-optical aerospace parts and assemblies

  • Collaborate with design engineers to ensure manufacturability and cost-effective production

  • Review engineering drawings and provide comments to responsible engineer

  • Participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to integrate technical solutions across multiple disciplines

  • Participate in supplier selection and evaluation to ensure adherence to quality and delivery standards

  • Write content for work instructions, travelers, and standard shop procedures

  • Utilize electronic work instruction, material control and non-conformance management systems as needed to support production

  • Ensure compliance with aerospace industry quality standards (e.g., AS9100, J-STD)

  • Ensure the manufacturing work instructions and special processes follow safety and environmental regulations

  • Assist in shop layout and equipment selection for new manufacturing processes

  • Coordinate with quality assurance to support inspections and non-conformance resolution

  • Implement design changes as required by engineering

  • Support production by troubleshooting manufacturing issues and implementing corrective actions

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement

  • 5+ years of experience working with Aerospace Supply Chain and Manufacturing

  • Prior experience in Manufacturing Engineering or similar function in an aerospace environment.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 10+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience with aerospace (aircraft/space vehicle) supply chain and manufacturing

  • Knowledge of AS9100 QMS standard and aerospace quality system requirements

  • Experience with authoring work instructions utilizing Boeing MESci and Prime-R environments

  • Able to review electronic versions of drawings using Computer-aided Design Software (CAD), PDM/SolidWorks, Teamcenter/NX

  • Ability to read drawings utilizing Geometric Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5

  • Experience reading process specifications and process instructions and determining applicable detailed requirements for manufacturing plan.

  • Utilized AS9102 First Article Inspection process for evaluating conformance to requirements and understanding process capability

  • Experience working with resolution on non-conforming material including participating in Material Review Board (MRB) activities.

  • In addition to manufacturing engineering, experience working in an operations function (Shop Floor Manufacturing Operations, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Supply Chain Management)

  • Experience working with lasers and assembling systems involving lasers

  • Prior manufacturing engineering experience working complex optical assemblies, optical alignment, system assembly, and system test

  • Prior manufacturing engineering experience with Printed Circuit Board Assembly manufacturing and integration

  • Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) or Bill of Material (BOM) software
