Through a strong partnership with other engineers, you will contribute to the overall Carmax Strategy as we build and deliver an exceptional customer experience to ensure customers can buy the vehicles they want in a way that’s right for them!

As a Senior Cloud Engineer for CAF Technology, you will be responsible for the development, maintenance, and support of CAF application infrastructure.  This position is a key contributor in the software development life-cycle, performing analysis and design, development, and working to achieve project goals.  The responsibilities of this position revolve around ownership of assigned engineering tasks and software development projects. This includes ensuring that application development efforts consistently meet business requirements, direction, and standards and may include coordinating the tasks of others.

What is CarMax Auto Finance? 

CarMax Auto Finance (CAF) is the captive finance company or wholly owned subsidiary of our retail arm, CarMax Auto Superstore.  CAF is the 14th largest auto lender in the US and 5th largest originator of used car loans in the nation.  

CarMax Auto Finance customers are offered 24x7 account access to a digital web portal to manage their account or make payments online.  The nearly 800 CAF associates based out of Kennesaw, Georgia are available to provide support from origination through payoff, including the return of their vehicle title. 

What you will do – Essential Responsibilities

  • Communicate regularly both verbally and in writing at various levels to include management, and other engineers and developers
  • Focus on developing, implementing, and operationalizing cloud solutions that are highly available and resilient
  • Perform configuration, troubleshooting, and ongoing management of various cloud technologies
  • Build infrastructure, networks, and systems for scalability, resiliency, availability, and recovery through infrastructure-as-code
  • Share your new ideas internally and evolve them according to feedback and critique within an agile environment
  • Consult with internal customer and continually evolve the platform and its operations using solid engineering and agile practices.
  • You will stay on top of industry trends and best practices to continually improve what we do, and how we do it.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related Technology field or equivalent experience and 5+ years of work experience or
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related Technology field or equivalent experience and 3+ years of work experience

Cloud Specific Qualifications and Requirements

  • 4+ years of working in and building Infrastructure within a cloud platform - Azure (preferred), AWS, Google (with relatable experience)
  • 2+ years scripting or coding experience with one or more languages
  • Technical experience in infrastructure, build and deployment, including private and public cloud, networking, connectivity, storage, virtualization and access control
  • Demonstrable experience with a range of Azure cloud capabilities including but not limited to storage, key vaults, virtual networking, web apps, Azure Active Directory, virtual machines, Azure Kubernetes, Containerization, access management and automated deployments
  • Demonstrable experience building and deploying resilient cloud architectures
  • Demonstrable experience with software development preferably with one or more languages, such as PowerShell, Python, C#
  • Demonstrable experience building and deploying resilient cloud architectures
  • Demonstrable experience creating and managing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Github Actions or Azure DevOps
  • Demonstrable experience support Windows and Linux OS
  • Mentor team in platform management and reusable patterns
  • Strong attention to detail, problem investigation and diagnostic skills
  • Passion for eliminating repetitive manual processes using automation

Work Location and Arrangement:

West Creek: This role will be based out of the CarMax Home Office at West Creek (Richmond, VA) and associates will work onsite 4 days per week

OR

Plano: This role will be based out of the CarMax Dallas Tech Hub (Plano, TX) and associates will work onsite 2 days per week

OR

CAF: This role will be based out of the CarMax Auto Finance office (Kennesaw, GA).  Associates will work onsite 4 days per week.

Work Authorization:  Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.  Sponsorship will not be considered for this specific role.

The annual salary for this position is:

$114,000.00 - $171,000.00

May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Benefits:

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:

  • To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company. 
  • For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday.  If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay. 

Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
