Job description

Job Title: Construction Superintendent – Finish Carpentry & High-End Residential Location: New York City, NY

Type: Direct Hire Industry: Residential Construction (High-End/Luxury Interiors) Compensation: $120,000 - $140,000 annually Contractor Work Model: Onsite Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Scope of Projects: Up to $5M

Position Summary:

Our Construction Superintendent – Finish Carpentry & High-End Residential is responsible for leading all on-site construction activities for high-end residential renovation projects throughout New York City.

This is a hands-on field leadership role best suited for a superintendent with a strong finish carpentry, millwork, or luxury interior background who understands craftsmanship, scheduling, and client service expectations in occupied residential environments.

Because all work is performed on active NYC job sites, a valid NYC Site Safety Training (SST) 62-hour Supervisor Card is required and must remain active throughout employment. The superintendent is responsible for ensuring full compliance with NYC Department of Buildings safety regulations and SST requirements at all times.

Construction Superintendent – Finish Carpentry & High-End Residential

Site Management:
  • Oversee all phases of construction from project start through completion in compliance with NYC SST safety requirements.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, trades, materials, and equipment while maintaining a safe and compliant jobsite.
  • Ensure daily operations align with NYC DOB safety standards and SST guidelines.
  • Maintain project schedules and proactively address field issues.
Quality Control:
  • Ensure all work conforms to drawings, specifications, and design intent.
  • Monitor workmanship for quality, accuracy, and finish.
  • Maintain high-end craftsmanship standards expected in luxury residential projects.

Coordination & Communication:

  • Work closely with Project Managers, architects, designers, consultants, and homeowners.
  • Lead subcontractor coordination meetings and daily field communication.
  • Maintain professional communication while enforcing site rules, safety protocols, and SST compliance expectations.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Enforce all NYC Department of Buildings safety requirements and SST 62-hour supervisor standards daily.
  • Ensure all workers on-site comply with OSHA and NYC SST regulations.
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Maintain a culture of safety accountability and compliance on-site at all times.

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Maintain daily logs, safety documentation, and SST-related site records.
  • Prepare look-ahead schedules and progress updates.
  • Track drawings, submittals, and project documentation.

Field Oversight:

  • Conduct daily site walks to monitor progress, quality, and safety compliance.
  • Ensure subcontractors are working in accordance with SST safety standards and project scope.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant jobsite.
  • Open and secure the jobsite daily in accordance with safety protocols.

Construction Superintendent – Finish Carpentry & High-End Residential Qualifications

  • 5–10+ years of Superintendent experience in residential and/or interior construction.
  • Strong background in finish carpentry, millwork, cabinetry, or high-end interior construction strongly preferred.
  • NYC Site Safety Training (SST) 62-hour Supervisor Card required and must be active.
  • Proven ability to enforce safety compliance and maintain NYC DOB SST standards on active job sites.
  • Experience managing occupied luxury residential projects strongly preferred.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Proven experience managing multiple trades and subcontractors.
  • Demonstrated leadership, reliability, and professional conduct.
  • Strong communication skills with homeowners, architects, designers, and project teams.
  • Proficiency in Procore or similar construction management software.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong professional references from recent construction employers required.
