The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) in the Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University is seeking a faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor. The faculty member will provide comprehensive clinical care, including full call responsibilities, while supervising and educating students and residents in clinical and didactic settings. Maintaining all required licensure, credentials, and continuing education to ensure compliance with institutional and regulatory standards will be required. The faculty member will also participate in scholarly activity and contribute to departmental, institutional, and professional service through committee involvement, accreditation support, and community engagement.
This position does not meet the requirements to be on a tenure track.

Responsibilities
Teaching - 60%
Deliver didactic instruction in predoctoral, postdoctoral, and/or residency training programs.
Supervise and mentor residents, and predoctoral students, in clinical and surgical settings.
Serve as course director or co-director, when assigned.
Develop, update, and assess course materials, syllabi, and educational content as needed when course director.
Provide feedback for residents and predoctoral students, contribute to grading and evaluations.
Participate in recruitment, interviewing, and selection of residents.
Support continuing education programs and professional development offerings.
Scholarship - 10%
Complete CITI training, IRB training and obtaining IRB online access.
Engage in clinical, translational, or basic science research relevant to OMFS.
Publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed journals, textbooks, or professional publications.
Mentor students and residents in research design, execution, and dissemination.
Service - 5%
Serve on departmental, college (DCG), university (AU), hospital, or health system committees as appointed or elected.
Participate in faculty governance through committee work, task forces, and advisory groups.
Maintain active membership and participation in relevant professional organizations (e.g., AAOMS, specialty boards).
Complete and maintain required continuing education (CE) credits for professional licensure and hospital privileges.
Fulfill all CE and credentialing requirements mandated by the department, DCG, AU, Wellstar and affiliated clinical institutions.
Maintain current state dental and/or medical licensure, board certification/eligibility, and applicable permits (e.g., sedation/general anesthesia).
Contribute to accreditation and compliance efforts (e.g., CODA, hospital credentialing reviews, institutional audits).
Represent the institution at professional meetings, community outreach events, and alumni or advancement activities.
Clinical/Patient Care - 25%
Obtain AUDA credentialing and privileging for AUDA Practice Group eligibility.
Maintain hospital credentialing and privileges to participate in on-call coverage schedules as required.
Provide comprehensive oral and maxillofacial surgical care in outpatient and/or hospital settings while teaching with predoctoral or resident learners present.
Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations related to patient care and safety.
Participate in clinical quality assurance, peer review, and morbidity and mortality conferences.
Supervise clinical operations, including residents and predoctoral students when assigned to clinic coverage, ensuring high standards of care.
Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation in electronic health records.
Required Qualifications
Graduate of a DDS or DMD program from an ADA-accredited dental school.
Successful Completion of a CODA-accredited Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program. Possession of an active, unrestricted Georgia dental license.
Must have American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon board or be board eligible.
Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration
Active anesthesia/sedation permit as required by state and institutional guidelines
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
Demonstrated knowledge, training, and clinical competency in the comprehensive scope of contemporary Oral and Maxillofacial surgical procedures, with the ability to independently provide high-quality patient care.
Assistant Professor - Early level career as a faculty member with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Associate Professor - Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Professor - Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
