LIFEGUARD

At Bear Country, Inc.(BCI)/Jellystone Park in Caledonia the lifeguard's job is to ensure swimmer safety by actively supervising aquatic areas including Bear Paw Beach/Adventure Island/Jellystone Park in Caledonia?s Pool area, by enforcing rules, preventing accidents, and responding to emergencies with rescues, first aid, and CPR, requiring constant vigilance, strong communication, and Ellis Lifeguard, CPR, and AED certifications. The lifeguards inspect facilities, monitor weather, and maintain a safe environment while often handling administrative tasks like opening/closing the aquatic facilities at BCI.

Core Responsibilities

  • Supervision & Prevention:

Constantly scanning water for hazards, identifying risks, and preventing accidents before they happen.

  • Rule Enforcement:

Clearly communicating and consistently enforcing pool or beach rules and safety guidelines.

  • Emergency Response:

Performing water rescues, administering first aid, CPR, and activating emergency action plans when needed.

  • Facility Maintenance:

Inspecting equipment, checking water quality, and ensuring cleanliness.

  • Communication:

Display exceptional guest service, effectively interacting with patrons, explaining rules, and coordinating with other staff.

Key Duties & Tasks

  • Monitor swimming areas for unsafe behaviors or conditions.
  • Warn swimmers of improper activities or dangers.
  • Rescue individuals in distress and provide immediate care.
  • Conduct safety checks on Bear Paw Beach/Wibit equipment, pool equipment and water.
  • Handle discipline and maintain order calmly.

Essential Qualifications

  • Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certifications a plus but not mandatory.
  • Strong swimming ability and physical fitness.
  • Vigilance, critical thinking, and quick decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and guest service skills.

Attendants must be strong swimmers and be comfortable working outside mostly in the sun. You will work on Adventure Island inflatable water course, check guests in to Bear Paw Beach, and kindly enforce rules to make the beach safe, comfortable, and enjoyable for all of our guests. All attendants will go through CPR certification, safety / first aid training, and Ellis Lifeguard certification, provided through BCI. Attendants will be responsible for lifeguarding both BearPaw Beach and the Jellystone pool and waterslide area.

This is everyday during the summer season, with peak days on weekends - especially Saturday & Sundays.

Age: 16 & up.
