Job description

Description Juneau Pools is seeking a Recreation Worker III also known as Aquatic Instructor to join our energetic Dimond Park Aquatic Center team. Under general supervision, this position will teach swimming lessons to students aging from six months to senior citizens. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR We are looking for fun and energetic applicants with good communication and organizational skills who enjoy working with community members of all ages in an aquatic setting.

Applicants must be able to understand swimming and aquatic safety concepts and be able to communicate them to students verbally as well as with physical demonstration. WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION This position's scheduled shifts will be on weekday evenings during the school year and on weekday mornings, typically from 8:00am-12:00pm, during the summer and occasional Saturday mornings.

Typical Responsibilities The main duty of this position will be providing swimming instruction to the public in an organized class structure. Class sessions are typically 30 - 45 minutes long and held between two and four times a week, either in the mornings or evenings, depending on the time of year. Minimum Qualifications Experience: Six (6) months of experience organizing and/or implementing recreation activities or an instructional certification.

Licensure/Certification: CPR within 30 days of employment. Other: American Red Cross certification as "Water Safety Instructor" or other specialized certification in diving, scuba diving or kayaking as appropriate. At least 15 years of age at time of appointment.

As part of the selection process a background investigation, including criminal records check and character references, will be required.
