Camp Season - Summer 2026

The Salvation Army, an Internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Camp Music Conservatory Visual Arts Studio Coordinator for the Arkansas and Oklahoma Conservatory of Music and Arts, located in Welling, OK. 

This is a summer position at Camp Heart O’ Hills. This position summary should not be interpreted as all-inclusive. It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position. The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this position summary.

The Visual Arts Studio Coordinator position oversees the visual arts studio by formulating and implementing a well-balanced visual arts curriculum that includes elements of painting, drawing, photography, design, pottery, etc, and training to help campers develop their own material.

About this opportunity:

  • This position is tasked with promoting a safe and stimulating learning environment for their students that facilitates personal, artistic, and spiritual growth.
  • The visual arts studio is tasked with creating displays for our Friday evening recitals. These displays should highlight the current discipline on which the class is focusing. The class should also prepare a display for the final graduation to showcase the culmination of their skills. This can take the form of individual pieces or a collective piece.
  • The visual arts studio may also be asked to create displays or materials to be used in worship services.
  • Other responsibilities may include creating lesson plans, scheduling private lessons, grading assignments, monitoring student’s progress, preparing students for displays, informing the Conservatory Director of any needed supplies, ensuring that the Conservatory equipment and instruments are well cared for, moving and setting up equipment as needed, planning and implementing at least one night program, etc.
  • All staff, including the Visual Arts Studio Coordinator, are also on duty during staff meetings, Bible Studies, worship services, night programs, and Evensong.
  • The Visual Arts Studio Coordinator should maintain proper behavior in their students, follow appropriate disciplinary guidelines when necessary, highlight positive behavior in students, promote the participation and safety of students at all times, provide guidance and role-modeling to students both personally and artistically, ensure punctuality and responsibility of students, ensure compliance with camp rules and regulations, assist with program activities as assigned by the Conservatory Director,  maintain an up-to-date incident report log, report any issues or concerns to the Conservatory Director, ensure that proper coverage is maintained over students at all times, keep personal living quarters neat, clean and ready for inspection, be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Conservatory Director,  etc.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with groups, providing necessary instruction to students and staff.
  • Visual and auditory ability to assess camper and staff behavior, identify hazards, and respond appropriately to emergencies.
  • Physical ability to supervise students, respond to emergencies, and apply first aid.
  • Must possess strength and endurance to maintain constant supervision of students.
  • Physical tasks may include climbing, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to perform activities are required.
  • Requires a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate activities.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours in a seven-day-a-week schedule.
  • Exposure to sun, heat, and varying environmental conditions daily.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Knowledge of child and youth behavior and development principles.
  • Ability to ensure the safety of students and staff.
  • Strong planning, development, and facilitation skills for youth programs.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to mentor students.
  • Knowledge of music education principles and the ability to teach music theory and classes in group or private settings
  • One year of experience teaching in your artistic discipline preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required skills and abilities.
