The Barataria-Terrebonne National Estuary Program (BTNEP) is a unique and complex, multi-year program of the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and is an affiliate of Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON). Essential to the effectiveness of the National Estuary Program is the significant participation of other state and federal agencies, local governments, university scientists, educators, and other citizens and stakeholders of the Barataria-Terrebonne estuarine complex.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The BTNEP Student Worker will assist the Office Manager/Director's Assistant with daily responsibilities including but not limited to answering phones, attending to visitors and the general public, filing, checking mail on a daily basis, assisting in the preparation of final minutes for management conference meetings and other reporting, keeping track of publication inventory (complete requests and mail outs for products from web, phone, and email inquiries). In addition, the individual will be asked to keep the office area clean, remove trash, and have vehicles cleaned and fueled for staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  • Enrolled in a College/University/Vocational/Technical College.

IDEAL CANDIDATE/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 2-3 years customer service or related experience.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Greet persons entering BTNEP.
  • Answer, respond, and direct phone calls, emails and mail delivery, record keeping.
  • Willing to assist other departments as necessary.
  • Ability to perform tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
