Department
College of Medicine, Interdisciplinary Medical Sciences BS Program
Responsibilities
The Specialized Teaching Faculty I position (Upper-Level IMS Curriculum) is responsible for teaching a variety of upper-level seminars and the capstone course for students majoring in the IMS majors (Clinical Professions, Health Management, Policy & Information, Community Patient Care).
  • 90% teaching, 5% service, 5% research, averaged over 12 months
  • Intensive instruction and frequent feedback on assignments
  • Assignments affected by enrollment, number, and complexity of graded work
  • Courses: junior and senior 1-credit seminars, 3-credit capstone
  • Regular teaching in Fall, Spring, and Summer, as required by enrollment
  • In-person or Flex option teaching using Canvas
Curriculum Structure
  • Developmental and sequential seminars, culminating in capstone
  • Scaffolded seminar assignments span multiple courses
  • Consistency ensured via IMS course templates and grading rubrics
  • Mandatory use of course templates, policies (attendance, assignments)
Supplemental Assignment
  • If seminar or capstone sections are not filled to capacity (70%), may receive additional curriculum-related assignments.

Qualifications
  • Academic doctorate or highest level terminal degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties.
  • Classroom teaching experience in higher education.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, scientific writing, research, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated excellence in student-centered mentorship in research, scholarship, and professional development.
  • Professional and/or academic experience in health and health related careers.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience teaching academic/scientific writing with feedback
  • Demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary health/social science research, education, or training
  • Demonstrated interest in mentoring students in critical and independent inquiry
  • Experience in undergraduate academic advising
  • Experience with Canvas LMS and higher education learning platforms
  • Experience in health-related course development and design
  • Engagement with healthcare community/service learning
