Position Overview:
Our Innovation Team is seeking to at least a 2nd year student for a paid internship during the summer of 2020 in our Rochester office.
SMP's Innovation Team focuses on developing software solutions, and as-a-service technologies, such as Robotic Process Automation/Digital Workers, AI and Intelligence-as-a-Service offerings. The team leads the company's go to market plans for new solutions and services, and ensures we address the business needs of our customers with leading edge technologies, meeting the high standards we have set for the solutions SMP takes to market.
We are looking for high performers who are forward-looking, innovative, enthusiastic and ambitious team players. Qualified candidates will be motivated self-starters with stellar academic credentials, superb judgment and communication skills, a commitment to excellence and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Gain hands on experience in a variety of areas including, but not limited to:
    • Robotic Process Automation
    • Virtualization
    • Cloud Computing (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
    • Cisco Collaboration (VoIP, Unified Communications, Video and Contact Center)
    • Network Security (Firewalls, Network Access Control)
  • Assist with the creation, design, configuration, and deployment of Robotic Process Automation (RPA).
  • General research and development of various technologies within areas such as Security, Cloud, Data Analytics, Managed Services, Mobility, Unified Communications and the competitive landscape
  • Design for SMP Solutions
  • Business Process Mapping and Notation Documentation
  • Development of Methods of Procedure (MOP) or Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Assist with the deployment of solutions at customer locations
  • Support other engineers with troubleshooting customer issues and work towards identifying/designing a solution
  • Participate in sales and marketing activities such as demonstration setup and testing.

Qualifications:
  • Working towards Bachelor's or Master's degree (2nd year student or higher required) in a technical discipline such as Network/Systems Administration.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Knowledge of adjacent technologies such as current operating systems and other cloud technologies.
  • Programming/scripting knowledge required.
  • Possess a high degree of system level troubleshooting.
  • Desire to work with RPA platforms to create automation.

Preferred Skills:
  • Working towards industry standard certifications is a plus.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:
  • This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. While a largely sedentary role, some lifting or carrying of items up to 50 pounds may occasionally be required.
  • May occasionally visit customer locations, as requested.
