Job description

Join our Crew! Summer Supervisor at Paddle Boston!

Do you live for days on the water? Are you ready to share your passion for the outdoors with the Boston community? Join the crew at Charles River Recreation!

We believe outdoor recreation should be affordable and accessible to everyone. From kayaking and paddle boarding to winter skating and skiing, we've been the go-to for Boston's outdoor enthusiasts for years. We're looking for an energetic, responsible Supervisor to lead our dock team and keep the energy and boats flowing all summer long.

The Role: Captain of the Dock

As a Supervisor, you aren't just watching the water-you're running the show. You'll work independently and as a team to ensure our diverse paddling customers and season pass holders have a safe, seamless, and fun experience.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • Team Leadership: Supervise daily operations and work directly with staff to ensure the rental process is smooth from the front desk to the water.
  • Operational Support: Get hands-on by prepping equipment for lessons/tours and jumping on the dock to assist with rentals.
  • Safety & Rescue: Keep a watchful eye on the river and lead rescue efforts when needed. (on the water rescue training will be required and provided)
  • Instruction: Depending on your skill level, you may lead group tours or teach kayak, canoe, or sailing lessons (training provided!).
  • Community Impact: Help us support the community by introducing new paddlers to our waterways through our accessibility programs.

What You Bring to the Crew

  • Outdoor Grit:You can lift 50 lbs, love working in the sun, don't mind the colder, windier, days of spring and fall, and have a genuine excitement for summer recreation.
  • Previous Staff Management Experience: Experience leading a team and a strong background in customer service.
  • Paddling Skills: Experience in kayaks, canoes, SUPs, or sailboats is highly desirable.
  • Certifications (The "Bonus Points"): Current CPR/First Aid, a MA Boater Safety certificate, or a background in coaching/teaching (especially with kids) will put you at the top of our list!
  • Language Skills: Multilingual? That's a huge plus for our diverse city!

The Perks & Pay

  • Starting Pay: $18โ€“22/hour + potential year-end bonus.
  • Benefits: Health insurance, paid vacation, retirement, and disability plans.
  • The Fun Stuff: Relaxed outdoor work environment, employee and industry discounts, and plenty of time on the water with access to all of our rental boats.

Charles River Recreation is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in our employment practices and strives to provide affordable and accessible outdoor recreation. We work with local non-profits and community organizations to introduce more people to our local waterways and skiing areas for free or reduced pricing. We are an equal opportunity employer. Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, protected veteran status or any other status protected by applicable law.
