Basic Function

Wilmington College invites applications for the position of Campus Minister, a vital role in cultivating a spiritually vibrant, inclusive, and student-centered community. Rooted in the Quaker testimonies of Simplicity, Peace, Integrity, Community, Equality, and Stewardship (SPICES), the Campus Minister supports students in exploring faith, purpose, and vocation.

This highly relational, mission-driven position fosters opportunities for worship, reflection, service, and interfaith engagement while providing pastoral care and leadership development. The Campus Minister collaborates across the College to integrate spiritual life into the broader student experience. This is a 12-month position reporting to the Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer/Dean of Students.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead Spiritual Life: Facilitate weekly Meetings for Worship and Quaker Leader Scholars gatherings; create meaningful opportunities for reflection, discernment, and spiritual exploration. Foster a welcoming, respectful environment for students of all faith traditions, backgrounds, and perspectives.
  • Provide Pastoral Care: Offer confidential, compassionate guidance and support to students navigating faith, identity, and life transitions; respond to crisis situations with care and professionalism. Be comfortable doing hospital visitation and leading memorial services.
  • Develop Programs: Design and implement retreats, small groups, speaker events, and campus ministry initiatives that foster spiritual growth and belonging. Participate in ceremonies and events such annual Convocations, new student orientation, Commencement, Baccalaureate, etc.
  • Engage Community: Connect spiritual formation with service and social justice; coordinate volunteer opportunities and build partnerships with the local Quaker community and multi-faith networks. Maintain an active relationship with Wilmington Yearly Meeting,- serve as an ex-officio member of the College Committee and prepare a written report for the Summer Annual Meeting (such as reporting at annual sessions).
  • Empower Student Leadership: Encourage and mentor student-led initiatives, supporting leadership development and active engagement.
  • Collaborate Across Campus: Partner with faculty, staff, and student leaders; participate in committees, retreats, and divisional initiatives. Serve on a variety of committees to include Campus Life, Commencement, Quaker Connections, etc.
  • Integrate Quaker Values: Infuse SPICES testimonies into campus life, programming, and institutional events such as convocations and commencement.

  • Knowledge of Quaker faith, practices, and testimonies, with the ability to lead Meetings for Worship.

  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, interfaith engagement, and social justice.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational abilities.

Qualifications

  • Active membership in the Religious Society of Friends (Quaker).
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master of Divinity (M.Div.), Master of Ministry (M.Min.), or M.A. in Peace Studies, Theology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in ministry, higher education, or social justice work.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Quaker process, history, and spiritual practice.
  • Evidence of emotional maturity, sound judgment, and healthy relational boundaries.
  • Passion for working with college students and supporting their holistic development.
