Compass ELC Location: CELC St. Joseph's School - Douro, Ontario


Role Title: After School Educator


Job Type: Permanent


Hours and Schedule: 30 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

  • Shifts will be split shifts during the school year for before- and after-school programming
  • During PA days, Winter break, March break, and Summer, these roles will be working full time.


Anticipated Start Date: August 31, 2026

Role and Accountabilities:

About the role:

At Compass, you will work as an After School Educator alongside some of the most passionate, caring, and dedicated educators in the industry. You will spend your time engaging, connecting, and learning alongside children, families, community partners, and co-workers. You are passionate about early learning and care, emergent curriculum, and lifelong learning. You are energetic, resourceful, and creative in your efforts to create learning opportunities, build connections, and engage with children and families.


Some accountabilities associated with the role include:

  • Plan and lead interest-based and play-based activities that reflect children's unique interests to promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children.
  • Maintain active supervision with children while still being engaged in play.
  • Documenting children's learning progress through observation, reflection, and research questions.
  • Create and maintain an environment that protects the health, safety, and well-being of children.
  • Assist the children with diapering, dressing, and eating habits.
  • Foster strong relationships with families and involve them in the learning process.
  • Collaborate with coworkers, families, and community partners to create a supportive environment.
  • Participate in team meetings, professional learning opportunities, and staff training opportunities.
  • Assist in housekeeping duties within the program.
  • Follow CELC, CCEYA, and Ministry of Education policies and procedures.



This position will work in a kindergarten or school-age classroom with full-day shifts during March break, Winter break, PA Days, and Summer Programming. Hours will be based on program needs and funding. Shift start and end times will fluctuate within the team and will fall within the program hours of 2 pm to 6 pm.

  • Unpaid Time - an option for permanent staff to purchase up to 4 weeks of unpaid time that is prorated off of 24 pays


Skills and Qualifications:

Requirements:

  • 1-3 years' experience working with children and youth.
  • Familiarity with the Child Care Early Years Act and licensing standards.
  • Valid certifications, including a Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check, Standard First Aid, and CPR Level C, and updated immunization records.
  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators
    • OR is currently pursuing or is interested in pursuing their ECE diploma.
    • OR has an alternative childcare designation that is eligible for Director's Approval (i.e., Child and Youth, Recreation and Leisure, and Ontario Certified Teachers - Primary and Junior)
