Job description

We are a distinguished, client-focused law firm renowned for delivering exceptional legal services in elder law, Medicaid planning, estate planning, probate, guardianships, real estate, civil commercial litigation, trust and estate litigation, and employment law. Serving clients across New York City, the Five Boroughs, and New Jersey, our seasoned attorneys combine razor-sharp legal expertise with heartfelt compassion for individuals, families, and businesses navigating complex matters. We craft tailored strategies, prioritize client education, and seek amicable resolutions whenever possible, yet stand ready to fiercely advocate in court to safeguard our clients' interests. As a small firm, we champion a supportive culture that fosters work-life balance, ultimate flexibility with remote work options, and professional fulfillment for our team.

We are seeking a seasoned Trust and Estate (T&E) Attorney with ultra-high net worth experience to join our vibrant team in a fully remote capacity, offering an unparalleled opportunity to escape the high-pressure grind while continuing to make a profound impact. This role is ideal for experienced professionals seeking flexibility, with the option to work full-time or part-time from anywhere in the USA. Specializing in succession and estate planning for ultra-high net worth individuals and families (assets exceeding $40 million), you'll guide clients through intricate asset protection, tax minimization, and legacy planning, leveraging your expertise from large firm environments in a serene, less demanding setting.

Responsibilities
  • Independently craft sophisticated estate plans for ultra-high net worth clients with assets exceeding $40 million, including drafting wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, and healthcare directives.
  • Spearhead succession planning to ensure seamless asset transfers, family business continuity, and estate tax minimization through cutting-edge strategies, with a focus on federal estate tax planning.
  • Independently draft and implement advanced estate tax planning vehicles, including sales to Intentionally Defective Grantor Trusts (IDGTs), Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts (GRATs), Qualified Personal Residence Trusts (QPRTs), and Charitable Trusts (e.g., Charitable Lead Annuity Trusts or Charitable Remainder Trusts).
  • Design and execute out-of-state asset protection trusts to safeguard client assets.
  • Provide expert counsel on tax-efficient gifting, intergenerational wealth transfer, and asset protection, incorporating elder law considerations such as long-term care and Medicaid eligibility when relevant.
  • Conduct meticulous reviews of client financial portfolios to identify tax-saving opportunities and mitigate risks in high-value estates.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including financial advisors and accountants, to deliver bespoke strategies aligned with clients' personal and familial aspirations.
  • Manage probate administration and trust oversight for complex estates, resolving disputes amicably or through litigation when necessary.
  • Stay ahead of evolving federal and state estate tax laws, offering proactive, informed guidance to clients on regulatory shifts.
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to firm-wide knowledge-sharing through internal training or client education initiatives.
  • Uphold meticulous documentation and adhere to the highest ethical standards in all client interactions.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and active bar admission in any U.S. state.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a T&E attorney at a large law firm, with a proven track record handling ultra-high net worth clients (assets exceeding $40 million).
  • Extensive expertise in independently drafting and executing sales to IDGTs, GRATs, QPRTs, Charitable Trusts, and out-of-state asset protection trusts, with a robust history of implementing these strategies in prior roles.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal estate tax planning, including exemptions, portability, and state-specific nuances, with New York-specific experience not required.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a remote work environment, with strong organizational and time-management skills to maintain standard business hours (approximately 40 hours per week for full-time, or flexible hours for part-time).
  • Preference for seasoned or senior attorneys seeking to step away from high-intensity large firms to prioritize lifestyle, family, or personal pursuits.
  • Outstanding communication skills, with a knack for explaining complex legal concepts with clarity and empathy to clients and families.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools, document drafting software, and virtual collaboration platforms.
  • Unwavering commitment to ethical practice, client confidentiality, and a client-centered approach rooted in empathy and long-term relationship building.
Compensation

We offer an enticing base salary of $175,000 to $225,000 annually for full-time roles (pro-rated for part-time), complemented by generous performance-based bonuses tied to client retention and successful estate planning outcomes. This role is crafted to match or surpass your current earnings while delivering a transformative work experience: significantly reduced stress, a superior working environment with flexible hours, and the freedom of fully remote work from anywhere in the USA. Step into a role where you can continue shaping legacies for ultra-high net worth clients while reclaiming your time and well-being in a supportive, balanced setting that redefines professional fulfillment.
