Job Description

KPFF is seeking summer interns interested in experiencing the daily life of a Structural Engineer. Weย provide you with a summer packed with training programs to prepare you to be successful, activities toย help you connect with our team, and real-world projects to apply your skills. At KPFF, 2 out of 3 of ourย interns return as full-time employees or return for another internship in the next year.ย 

Who We Are Looking Forย 

Students curious about Structural Engineering and wanting to understand the daily life of a Structuralย Engineer. We enjoy working with interns who are eager to contribute to their teams and who areย interested in making connections and getting to know the people they work with. For this role you willย need to have completed a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (with an emphasis in Structures orย Architectural Engineering, prior to the start of the internship.

You are interested in Structural Engineering and would like the opportunity to be exposed to a wideย range of projects and conditions. You enjoy working with and learning from others to create work thatย you are proud of. You take the initiative to solve challenging problems and are a proactive team member.

What You Will Be Doing

As a Structural Engineering Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in structural design, workingย closely with our experienced engineers on real-world projects. You will have the opportunity to applyย your academic knowledge, develop your skills, meet other students who are in the same eld, andย contribute to meaningful work. You will assist in the preparation of calculations and constructionย documents on active jobs under the guidance of project leaders. You will have the opportunity toย participate in project meetings and site visits.ย 

Position Overview

This is a non-exempt, temporary position. All overtime hours are paid at a time-and-a-half hourly rate.ย 

Salary

The pay rate for this position is $31.50 an hour for interns awarded a bachelor's degree prior to the start of the internship.

Monthly Way We Work stipend toย assistย with remote work and transit expenses.ย

Minimum Qualifications

You must possess a completed bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (with an emphasis in Structures orย Architectural Engineering) prior to the start of the internship.ย ย 

Transcripts must show completed courses in:ย 

  • Structural Analysis
  • Mechanics of Materials
  • Concrete
  • Steel or Wood Designย

Work Schedule

40-hour work schedule, Monday through Fridayย 
Interns work Monday-Thursday in our Orange County Irvine office. Interns have the option to workย remotely on Fridays from home.ย

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Duties are performed in a normal office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table.
  • Duties require the ability to actively engage withย a computer for several hours per day.
  • May occasionally need to lift items up to 15 lbs.
  • Duties require in-person attendance, Monday through Friday, during our business hours of 8 AM to 5ย PM at our office in Downtown Los Angelesย for the training period.ย 
  • Following a satisfactory training period, a hybrid schedule of 4 days per week Monday throughย Thursday in the office, and Fridays from home may be accommodated.
