Position Description
JOB TITLE: Summer Camp Counselor
DEPARTMENT: Calvary Christian Academy
REPORTS TO: Summer Camp Coordinator
STATUS: Non-Exempt; Temporary, Seasonal
HOURS: As needed, Temporary
LOCATION: CCA Hollywood
Purpose Statement:
The Summer Camp Counselor is responsible for childcare throughout Summer Camp hours. The specific focus of this role is to facilitate additional learning and activities for children in a safe environment and in a manner that will glorify the Savior.
Scope:
This position interacts directly with children of all ages and grade levels. He/she participates in activities with the children through games, playground activities and videos, with occasional field trips if applicable to the age group. This person interacts with all students, staff, pastors, and anyone else on the campus as a representative of Calvary Christian Academy.
Specific Responsibilities:
• Supervise children at all times and keep track of their location.
• Develop and maintain a schedule that provides enrichment for the students
• Be prompt to all assigned activities and follow schedules precisely.
• Supervise students and maintain an accurate headcount during field trips
• Ensure children in his/her group represent Calvary Christian Academy well while offsite.
• Follow all Summer Camp Handbook policies.
• Maintain radio contact with the office to know when children are to be released.
• Ensure that children go home with the proper adult.
• Interact with children so that they enjoy their time in camp.
• Pray with children who have a need or who have been disciplined.
• Provide children with snacks and clean the snack area afterwards.
• Ensure students are well behaved and disciplined by the proper authority when a need arises.
• Keep accurate attendance records for check in and check out.
• Transport children safely to different areas for different camp activities
• Assist with other age groups as necessary.
• Ensure that injured children receive the needed medical attention from the Camp Director and complete an incident report and have the Summer Camp Director review and sign.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Summer Camp Director.
• Must be able to lift 40 lbs

• A strong personal commitment to Jesus Christ
• A strong commitment to the philosophies and Statement of Faith of Calvary Chapel
• Completion of level two servant requirements, working towards level four
• Excellent communication skills
• A good working relationship with children, parents and staff
• Able to control emotions; slow to anger
• Able to remain calm and organized during busy schedules
• Skilled teacher and educator
• Spiritually mature
• Able to counsel, comfort, and offer support to students
• Able to maintain order and structure in a large group of children
