Prep Cook/Kitchen Help
Position Overview
Round Lake Christian Camp is seeking dependable, hardworking individuals to join our summer Food Service Team. This is an excellent opportunity for school employees looking for summer work, teenagers seeking seasonal employment, or anyone who enjoys serving others in a team-oriented environment.
Prep Cooks and Kitchen Help assist with preparing and serving meals, cleaning the kitchen and dining areas, washing dishes, stocking supplies, and supporting the Food Service Director and Food Service Supervisor. No previous commercial kitchen experience is required. We are willing to train applicants who bring a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Assist with preparing, cooking, and serving meals for campers, volunteers, guests, and staff.
  • Follow recipes, portion guidelines, and instructions provided by kitchen leadership.
  • Wash dishes, cookware, utensils, and other kitchen equipment.
  • Clean and sanitize counters, work areas, equipment, floors, and kitchen facilities.
  • Safely operate assigned kitchen equipment after receiving proper training, including:
    • Ovens and grills
    • Deep fryers
    • Commercial dishwashers
    • Large mixers
    • Food slicers
    • Steam tables
    • Coffee makers
    • Other commercial kitchen equipment
  • Stock and organize pantries, storerooms, coolers, and freezers.
  • Assist with receiving and putting away deliveries.
  • Follow proper procedures for food storage, labeling, temperature control, and sanitation.
  • Follow established procedures for food allergies and dietary restrictions.
  • Help ensure meals are prepared and served safely, efficiently, and on time.
  • Communicate supply, equipment, or food-safety concerns to kitchen leadership.
  • Complete other food service duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • Previous cooking, food service, or large-quantity meal experience is preferred but not required.
  • Training will be provided to individuals with a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Basic mathematical skills for measuring ingredients and adjusting quantities.
  • ServSafe Food Handler certification is preferred or may be required after hire, with training provided.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Regularly bend, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull.
  • Lift and carry food, dishes, supplies, and kitchen equipment.
  • Work around hot burners, ovens, fryers, steam tables, and heated equipment.
  • Work near cutting equipment and machinery with moving parts.
  • Work in changing temperatures, including kitchens, coolers, and freezers.
  • Perform duties in a busy environment with moderate to high noise levels.
  • Maintain the health and stamina necessary to perform the position safely and effectively.
