Job Description
Under the general supervision of a department supervisor, this position performs skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of buildings with a focus on changing light bulbs, minor plumbing parts, HVAC filters, and other maintenance tasks appropriate for the position. This position will ensure that university buildings are maintained in a manner that promotes a positive image of the campus. Position entails manual labor associated with the routine maintenance of university facilities. This is a temporary position that will end on August 14, 2026.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: Employment duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as changing light bulbs, minor plumbing parts, HVAC filters, lubricating door locks and hinges, and other maintenance tasks appropriate for the position consistent with contemporary standards of good practice; this is physically demanding work that often occurs indoors and outdoors in various conditions
  • Frequently inspect ladders and other equipment to verify they are in safe working order
  • Unlock doors to perform maintenance inside secured areas and ensure doors are locked after completing work
  • Move furniture as needed to complete maintenance assignments; this requires heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling, up to 25 pounds independently and up to 50 pounds with assistance
  • Perform special and other assignments as directed

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The knowledge, skills, and abilities for this role include:
  • Ability to stand, walk, crouch, bend, and have dexterity with arms and hands
  • Ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions in English and to perform routine painting duties without immediate supervision
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, students, and the university community
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the job requirement
  • Ability to walk and climb stairs as many buildings have multiple floors with stairs and no elevators
  • Ability to work in environments with extreme temperature and humidity and may work in buildings without air conditioning, heating, or other comforts. May work in areas that are dusty, noisy, and areas that may have unpleasant odors

Required Qualifications: This position requires:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred

Work authorization sponsorship may be available for this position. However, sponsorship is contingent upon the non-applicability of the visa petition fees outlined in the relevant Executive Order signed September 19, 2025.
