Northmarq is seeking a Loan Operations Intern for its Bloomington, MN headquarters office. Northmarq's Summer Internship Program is a ten-week opportunity to learn the skills and gain the experience necessary for success in the commercial real estate industry. This position will work in our Operations Department and gain exposure to several teams including Escrow & Admin, Compliance, Investor Accounting, Investor Reporting, System Support, and Loan Processing through opportunities to shadow each team's day to day work and complete functional tasks alongside our full-time staff.
This individual will support a variety of commercial loan servicing and operations activities, including portfolio onboarding, loan administration, cash management, compliance support, and operational process execution. Responsibilities may include reviewing and validating servicing information, supporting account and transaction processing, assisting with operational and risk management initiatives, and contributing to projects that enhance efficiency and service delivery. The role will provide general administrative and operational support to the Servicing department, including mail processing, document management, and other departmental needs as identified. Additional duties and projects may be assigned to support evolving business and team priorities.
The ideal candidate will be analytical, detailed, and driven to meet various deadlines while working independently on the assigned workload, ensuring accuracy remains a priority. A disciplined individual who is driven to enhance and maintain quality processes, while demonstrating problem-solving skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks, will excel at this position. Ongoing training is provided as part of the position to ensure expertise within the team and department. Additional responsibilities, including a summer intern project and multiple other projects, may be added as job expertise is demonstrated.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Plan and schedule own workload to most efficiently meet benchmarks.
  • Provide premier customer service to lenders, borrowers, other Northmarq staff, and outside vendors.
  • Analyze and interpret loan documents to accurately onboard shell loans into our Servicing system.
  • Coordinate and execute new CMBS portfolio onboarding within our Servicing system.
  • Review and validate borrower ACH payment setups to support secure and accurate transactions.
  • Support the release of collateral through lien satisfaction processing.
  • Complete escrow payment validation for monthly certifications due to clients.
  • Reconcile custodial accounts and complete money movements and book balance entries.
  • Research and compile supporting documentation for audit requests.
  • Assess compliance with lender requirements and support audit and risk management initiatives.
  • Participate in the Summer Intern Team Project with the other interns and present to Senior Management.
  • Commitment to attend weekly mentor meetings and networking meetings with Senior Management.
  • Perform other reasonable tasks/projects and assist our Operations Teams, as needed.

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Business, preferably in the finance, real estate, economics, accounting, business administration, or organization management.

Northmarq carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate's education, training, and experience. The salary range for the Insurance intern position is $22.00 per hour.
