Position Overview
Holton-Arms School invites applications for the position of Lower School Math Specialist (Grades 3–6). The Math Specialist is a pedagogical leader, instructional coach, and a core member of the Lower School Support Team. This role is responsible for the strategic health of the mathematics department, ensuring that every student—from those needing foundational support to those seeking high-level enrichment—receives a tailored and rigorous mathematical experience.
Key ResponsibilitiesInstructional Coaching & Co-Planning- Cycle-Based Planning: Meet with each grade-level team once every 10 days to co-plan units, align assessments, and share instructional strategies.
- Data Analysis: Interpret assessment data to guide instructional decisions and identify professional development needs.
- Coaching & Modeling: Spend 75-80% of time in the field, providing classroom-based demonstrations and one-on-one teacher support to build faculty capacity.
- Flexible Support (Push-in/Pull-out): Provide direct student support by pulling small groups for targeted intervention or high-level enrichment, and pushing into classrooms based on real-time grade-level needs.
- Tutoring Coordination: Manage the school’s math tutoring program, including interviewing potential tutors, maintaining an approved tutor list, and matching students with appropriate support.
- Morning Math: Lead weekly early-morning sessions (7:30 AM) for each grade level to provide additional touchpoints for student success.
- Math Olympiad: Manage all aspects of the Grades 4-6 Math Olympiad, from registration and weekly instruction to the final awards ceremony.
- LS Leadership: Serve as a core member of the Lower School Support Team, meeting weekly to guide divisional decisions, student support strategies, and operational leadership.
- Vertical Alignment: Collaborate with the Middle School Math Coordinator and Upper School Department Chair to ensure a seamless 3-12 mathematical trajectory.
- Admissions & Outreach: Market the math program through admissions events, tours, and parent education initiatives.
- Procurement: Manage the end-to-end ordering process and vendor relationships for all curriculum materials, consumables, and digital technology platforms.
- Summer Math Camp: Lead the hiring, curriculum design, and coordination of the Grades 3-6 summer academic program in collaboration with the Literacy Specialist and Director of Auxiliary Programs.
- US Student Mentorship: Orient and supervise Upper School volunteers to support contest math practices and afterschool tutoring program, fostering cross-divisional connections.
Qualifications & Skills
- Educational Leadership: Experience in a leadership or coordinator role within an independent school setting preferred.
- Pedagogical Mastery: Deep understanding of how girls learn math and a repertoire of strategies for both remediation and enrichment.

- Collaborative Mindset: A "team-first" approach to working with grade-level teachers and the LS Support Team.

Compensation and Benefits
The average salary range for this position is $70,000.00 - $100,000.00, with the exact salary to be determined based on education and experience. We use a step scale to determine teacher salary. Additional stipends are available for coaching, certain club sponsorship and significant commitments outside of the classroom.
