Job description

Young Explorers Academy Teachers are experienced elementary educators responsible for delivering engaging academic enrichment activities for groups of up to 20 rising 2nd through 4th graders, with the assistance of a senior counselor. Each day includes hands-on STEM or makerspace projects that encourage critical thinking, problem-solving, and creative exploration. Additionally, an A/B day rotation focuses on math and reading/writing enrichment to reinforce core skills and maintain academic progress in a fun, supportive environment.
Position Description Responsibilities
  • Camp by the Bay runs from June 15 to July 24, with a mandatory staff orientation from June 10 to June 12. There will be no camp on June 19 and July 3. Primary daily work hours are 8:15 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with the possibility of additional after-camp work opportunities until 4:30 p.m. (based on enrollment and staffing needs). Applicants who are not available for the full camp period are still encouraged to apply; however, preference will be given to applicants who are able to work the entire session.
  • Implement daily hands-on STEM or makerspace activities that inspire curiosity, innovation, and problem-solving. All activity lessons and materials will be provided.
  • Lead rotating math and reading/writing sessions on alternating days (A/B schedule), providing interactive lessons aligned with campers' developmental levels. All activity lessons and materials will be provided.
  • Ensure lessons are highly engaging and facilitate critical thinking, collaboration, and skill maintenance that reinforce academic concepts in fun, practical ways.
  • Monitor camper progress, adapt activities to diverse learning needs, and provide regular feedback to both campers and camp administration.
  • With the assistance of senior counselors, ensure a quality and smooth classroom experience by utilizing effective classroom management, clearly stating directions, promptly addressing behavior concerns, and creating a supportive environment conducive to learning.
  • Foster a positive, supportive classroom culture that encourages participation, creativity, and exploration.
