Part-Time Teacher Job Description

Why did you first decide to become a Teacher? At Sylvan, we remember why. As an Instructor at Sylvan, your primary responsibilities are: Just Teaching. No Lesson Plans. No Preparation. As a part-time Sylvan Instructor, you will be trained on the Sylvan curriculum and given the tools to teach in a small group, 3:1 setting. You will provide personalized instruction in Reading, Writing, Math, Study Skills, SAT/ACT prep and State exams to students of all levels. The specific subjects that you teach will depend on what your areas of expertise are.

As a successful Sylvan Part-Time Teacher, you will:

Deliver Quality Education:

  • Teach using Sylvan based programs
  • Supervise, interact with and motivate students during instruction hour while they work with equipment and materials
  • Reward students for completed assignments
  • Evaluate and document student progress
  • Communicate student needs to the center manager

Inspire Students:

  • Develop rapport with students and establish a fun learning environment
  • Maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and Sylvan

We require:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 1 year of teaching or tutoring experience
  • State level teaching certification (current or expired, not required for Math Instruction)

We are looking for instructors for to work in center. Please include your availability in your email. The current shifts we are hiring for are Mondays 3 or 4-7 (2-6 is actually ideal but start time can be worked around), Wednesdays 2, 3, or 4-7, Thursdays 3-6 (2-6 is ideal but start time can be worked around). During the summer, our needs will change and we will have morning shifts available as well.

As we try to build relationships with our students, please don't apply if you can't commit to maintaining your schedule. Our students are our main priority and it is disruptive for them when a teacher leaves.
