Job Summary
The University of North Georgia is currently accepting applications for a federal work study student in the Libraries department on the Gainesville campus. The University of North Georgia at the Gainesville Campus Library is seeking focused, dedicated students who are eligible for employment during the Summer semester. These individuals must be flexible, dependable and able to work a set schedule, between 15-20 hours. Library Student Assistants are responsible for providing customer service assistance to UNG Libraries patrons and clerical and project support to Libraries faculty and staff. This position requires evening hours and may require Sunday hours.
Responsibilities
  • The Library Assistant greets patrons and provides courteous support by answering basic informational, directional, and policy questions while helping users locate and access materials.
  • This role includes checking materials in and out, assisting with scanners and printers, supporting interlibrary loan and call slip requests, and helping library employees with special projects.
  • The position also involves maintaining the Library facility and collections through shelving, shelf-reading, searching for missing items, conducting hourly walk-throughs, and assisting with opening and closing procedures.
  • Additional duties include monitoring building conditions and behavior concerns, reporting issues to supervisors, and performing other tasks as assigned by Library employees.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • The position requires excellent customer service skills, along with strong written, oral, and listening communication abilities.
  • Successful applicants will work well both independently as self-starters and collaboratively in a team environment and be a willing learner.
  • Strong time-management skills and close attention to detail are essential for this role.

  • Must be enrolled at the University of North Georgia in a minimum of six (6) credit hours to qualify as a student worker.
