Summer 2027 (2L) Legal Internship Program
The Bronx District Attorney's Office
From Pipeline to Purpose

At the Bronx District Attorney's Office, we believe that the future of public service is built through meaningful opportunities to learn, lead, and serve. Our Summer Legal Internship Program is designed to help students move from pipeline to purpose-transforming classroom knowledge into practical experience and inspiring the next generation of prosecutors, advocates, and public service leaders. Through mentorship, training, and hands-on learning opportunities, interns gain exposure to the realities of public service while building the professional skills, judgment, and leadership qualities necessary for a successful legal career.
The Bronx District Attorney's Office is committed to "Pursuing Justice with Integrity" while enhancing public safety and strengthening community trust. Serving more than 1.4 million residents, our Office offers law students the opportunity to engage in meaningful public service while learning from experienced prosecutors and legal professionals dedicated to advancing justice in the Bronx. The nine-week program will take place during the Summer of 2027, commencing on Tuesday, June 1st, and concluding on Friday, July 30th. Interns work full-time, in person, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Interns are assigned to a specific bureau within the Office. An Assistant District Attorney directly supervises them. Whether observing courtroom proceedings, assisting attorneys with legal research and writing, participating in simulations, or engaging with leaders across the Office, interns are encouraged to move from Pipeline to Purpose-transforming their interest in the law into meaningful public service.
Program Overview
The Summer Legal Internship Program is a nine-week, full-time, in-person experience beginning June 1, 2027.
Interns will:
  • Observe court proceedings, hearings, and trials.
  • Conduct legal research and drafting assignments.
  • Assist attorneys with case preparation and litigation support.
  • Participate in training programs, lectures, and professional development workshops.
  • Engage in simulation exercises designed to strengthen advocacy and litigation skills.
  • Network with attorneys, executive leadership, and criminal justice professionals.
  • Gain insight into the responsibilities and ethical obligations of public service attorneys.

Internship Responsibilities
Summer Legal Interns will gain hands-on experience within one of the nation's leading prosecutor's offices. Interns may be assigned to the Trial Division, Investigations Division, Strategic Innovations Division, Appeals Bureau, or Community Justice initiatives, and have the opportunity to work with BXDA's Digital Forensic Laboratory-the first accredited digital forensic laboratory in a prosecutor's office in New York State and the first accredited digital forensic laboratory in New York City.
Eligible interns may have the opportunity to appear in court under the Student Practice Order and will assist attorneys with legal research, case preparation, witness interviews, hearings, trials, police report review, and other substantive legal assignments. Interns will also participate in a rigorous training program featuring lectures from criminal justice professionals and simulation-based practicums designed to strengthen advocacy and litigation skills. Every effort will be made to provide interns with a substantive writing assignment that may serve as a future writing sample.
Who Should Apply?
We seek students who are intellectually curious, committed to public service, and eager to learn in a fast-paced legal environment. Successful interns demonstrate strong analytical abilities, sound judgment, professionalism, initiative, and a willingness to contribute as members of a team.
Why BXDA?
At BXDA, interns are more than observers-they are valued members of our community. Our program combines substantive legal work, mentorship, professional development, and meaningful exposure to public service careers. Interns leave with a deeper understanding of the criminal justice system, stronger professional networks, and practical skills that will serve them throughout their careers.
Eligibility
  • Current Law Student: 2L-JD class of 2028
  • Completion of a Criminal Law class
  • Demonstrated interest in public service, criminal law, and litigation
