ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a hands‑on, field‑based internship that provides meaningful exposure to occupational safety within a warehouse and distribution center operation.

In this role, the Safety & Workers’ Compensation Intern will make an impact by partnering directly with an on‑site Safety Specialist at one of our distribution center locations, while also gaining visibility to broader safety strategy under the guidance of the Sr. Director of Safety. This opportunity allows students to apply academic learning to real‑world safety practices, support daily safety initiatives, and gain practical experience in a fast‑paced operational environment.

This internship provides hands-on experience supporting core safety programs, including facility assessments, procedure development, and Workers’ Compensation processes. The role is structured to ensure the intern leaves with practical experience and a portfolio of tangible deliverables that demonstrate real-world impact.

As an intern, the duration of this role is for a defined period of approximately 8-10 weeks from your start date. Depending on business needs, this timeframe may be adjusted at management’s discretion. There may also be an opportunity to be considered for a full-time position if one becomes available; however, this is not guaranteed!

COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE

$15.00 hourly

Monday - Friday (8:00am - 4:30pm)

This position is 100% onsite and based in our distribution center, with no remote or hybrid work options.

Full-time summer internship lasting approximately 10-12 weeks, with start and end dates aligned to a standard academic calendar. This internship will take place from June 8, 2026, to August 7, 2026.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Support core safety programs across distribution operations, gaining hands-on exposure to real-world occupational safety practices
  • Assist with facility safety assessments and inspections, including identifying hazards and documenting observations
  • Contribute to the development and updating of written safety policies, procedures, and training materials
  • Support Workers’ Compensation processes, including basic claims administration, documentation, and data tracking
  • Collaborate with safety leadership and site partners on active safety initiatives and improvement projects
  • Develop tangible, professional-grade work products and deliverables that demonstrate practical impact and learning outcomes

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program in Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Risk Management, or a closely related field.
  • Completion of at least one academic year of safety-related coursework prior to the start of the internship.
  • Strong technical writing skills; able to produce clear, organized, and professional documents (SOPs, Hazard Assessments, inspection reports)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); ability to create and manage spreadsheets and basic reports.
  • Ability to work in an active warehouse/distribution environment; this is a floor-based role requiring standing, walking, and occasional lifting.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

In performing this job, the employee must stand and walk for an 8+ hour shift. Additionally, the position requires frequent grasping, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and handling of items with hands and arms, up to 50 lbs. Moderate hand-eye coordination, near vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, adjusting focus and hearing.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • The job will be performed entirely in the warehouse where conditions can range from warm to cool.
  • The job will be performed around warehouse machines and equipment with a moderate level of noise.
  • Student must be able to work in a high-volume, high-demand environment.
