Job description

Job Descriptions for Para/Support Staff

The Summer Language Academy Paras/Support Staff supports targeted literacy and language instruction to multilingual learners and students needing additional reading and writing support. This role includes both push-in support within classroom settings and pull-out small group intervention support, with a focus on accelerating language development and literacy skills during the summer session. Collaboration will be critical as paras/support staff will work with classroom teachers to best determine literacy and language supports. 

Collaboration

  • Partner with classroom teachers to support instruction
  • Communicate student progress and strategies with staff as appropriate
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented summer learning environment

Learning Environment

  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom culture
  • Encourage student participation, confidence, and language use
  • Implement culturally responsive teaching practices

Qualifications

  • Experience working with multilingual learners and/or students needing literacy intervention
  • Knowledge of best practices in literacy instruction and language development
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with push-in/pull-out service models
  • Familiarity with structured literacy approaches or intervention programs
  • Ability to use data to drive instruction

Compensation

  • $21.00 per hour (external candidates)
  • Internal para candidates receive their current rate of pay.

Schedule

  • Monday - Thursday 7:30am - 1:30pm
  • June 8th - June 25th
  • Orientation day prior to June 8th date/time TBD
