Job description

Summary

The Driver is vital in the overall operation of Russell Standard. While operating commercial vehicles, our drivers perform the tasks necessary for the day-to-day operations of both pavement preservation and production of asphalt emulsions. In pavement preservation, our drivers haul equipment and materials, operate dump trucks, and assist our Laborers and Equipment Operators. In production, our drivers transport raw materials for use and deliver finished products to customers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain appropriate DOT logs, as well as neat and accurate assigned paperwork
  • Obtain and haul materials from storage facilities, manufacturing yards, or office yards
  • Perform daily inspection on assigned equipment and refer issues, defects, or repairs to equipment maintenance
  • Follow and obey all road and traffic laws
  • Follow and obey all DOT and FMCSA regulations and guidelines
  • All other duties as assigned

Skills and Education

Required

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License – Class A or B
  • Knowledge of single and multi-rear axle trucks

Preferred

  • Hazmat and Tanker endorsements (or ability to get within 60 days of hire)
  • Basic vehicle maintenance and upkeep knowledge

Job Requirements

  • Ability to work in a team environment with other crew members, as well as the ability to work independently without close supervision
  • Must be available for overnight travel at job sites
  • Ability to work varied shifts and long hours during peak operation times (spring, summer, and fall)
  • Must be able to work overtime and have a willingness to be flexible in scheduling
  • Ability to safely lift at least 50 pounds, work on elevated platforms, occasionally enter confined spaces, and tolerate scents common to fuels and asphalt operation
  • Ability to perform work which requires frequent and regular movement of wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Ability to perform work which requires frequent and regular walking and standing
  • Ability to see, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity

Work Environment

Work sites are outdoors and may require that work be done in adverse weather conditions. This position requires its responsibilities to be performed in an asphalt emulsions manufacturing plant and potentially hazardous traffic conditions. Work conditions may involve exposure to hot materials, chemicals, fumes, dust, odors, gases, and other substances used in a construction environment.
