Job description

Analytical Chemist

Shift: 11:30am - 8:00pm Mon - Thurs & 9:30am - 6:00pm Friday

Job Description

This QC Analytical Chemist role focuses on testing and releasing raw materials used in manufacturing within a regulated GMP environment. You will perform a variety of wet chemistry and analytical tests on incoming materials, support documentation and method activities, and gradually expand into HPLC and GC work as you grow in the role. The position offers strong training, exposure to diverse instrumentation, and clear opportunities for internal advancement across multiple quality and development teams.

Responsibilities

  • Test incoming raw materials in accordance with USP, EP, and internal specifications before they are released for manufacturing use.
  • Perform wet chemistry testing such as pH measurements, infrared (IR) analysis, moisture determination, identification (ID) tests, titrations, and other routine QC analyses.
  • Work under GMP regulations and follow established quality control procedures, methods, and documentation requirements.
  • Accurately document all test results, calculations, observations, and deviations in laboratory notebooks, electronic systems, and controlled forms.
  • Assist in drafting, reviewing, and updating analytical protocols, test methods, and related documentation as experience increases.
  • Train on and progressively perform HPLC and GC analyses for raw materials, adapting methods based on the type of material received.
  • Support method validation and method transfer activities under guidance from Sr chemists or supervisors.
  • Perform basic testing and routine QC tasks during initial training to build proficiency in laboratory techniques and procedures.
  • Take on side tasks and supporting activities, such as maintaining laboratory supplies, preparing reagents and standards, and organizing work areas, to ensure continuous productivity.
  • Collaborate with other chemists on the Raw Materials team and, as experience grows, cross-train with the Finished Product team on particle size testing, dissolution testing, and other finished product analyses.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or a related life science field.
  • Completion of analytical chemistry coursework during undergraduate studies.
  • Undergraduate research experience or summer internship experience in a chemistry or related laboratory, demonstrating initiative beyond classroom work, or 0–2 years of chemistry experience in a GMP environment.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and apply new analytical techniques and instrumentation, including HPLC and GC.

Work Environment

You will work primarily in a modern quality control laboratory that operates under GMP regulations. The lab has expanded over the last two years and features a contemporary, shared workspace design. Chemists work about 90% of their time in the lab initially, with the potential to transition to around 70% lab work after two to three years as responsibilities broaden. All chemists use laptops and work in shared spaces rather than having individual desks, while scientist-level staff have dedicated desks.
